Thanks to the help of Tony Zapacero, a young boy with cerebral palsy will finally be given Thanks to the help of Tony Zapacero, a young boy with cerebral palsy will finally be given the help he needs. Eight-year-old Nathan’s family decided to build a swimming pool to allow him to complete therapy at home for his illness. But when the company that was paid to do the job failed to see it through to the end, Nathan’s stepfather John Herford became desperate.
Enter Mr Zapacero. “Basically we paid this bloke to come in and do the concreting around the pool which then all had to get ripped up because it wasn’t done properly,” Mr Herford said. “I’d organised for a truck of concrete to turn up on the Saturday morning of the NRL grand final weekend for this bloke to come back and re-do it, but he backed out on the morning. “I rang Tony at Recommended Concrete and within an hour he was there. “Not only that but he’d organised guys from Hunter Valley Concrete Pumping and Urban Landscape Supplies to be there and get this job done. He didn’t charge me for it, he just heard the story and got it done.” Mr Herford and his family had paid more than $8500 for the pool and had hoped to have it completed when Nathan returned from treatment in Adelaide. He said the family could not thank Mr Zapacero enough. “Basically, the bloke who didn’t do the job stole that money right from Nathan,” he said. “How do you look your kid in the eye and answer them when they ask why they can’t use their pool that they need? “But thanks to Tony, Nathan will be able to use it.
“We’re just so relieved and thankful.”
