I am about to change the two rubber hydraulic lines on the 2nd stage ram on a Putz 36. Will a lot of oil drain out of the ram when the hoses are removed? Any Suggestions? Thanks |

seed i use the the plastic ends off the new hoses to plug the feed lines untell i can get the new hose on, and if the end is a male ido the same olny i use a fitting w/ a cap on it. less mess and i dont have to fill the res as much. |

Similar, but we have a couple dozen different sized, metric and standard, metal couplings and plugs/nuts we use to keep a line from leaking while changing it out. They work great. You're going to get some leaking i'm sure, but plugging the lines up will minimize it for sure. |

Seed, Perhaps I am an old woman about some things; this is one of them. When you get the new lines on I would like you to do something for me. Set up where your boom can not hit anything. Extend the cylinder on which you changed the lines, pressure it out in that position for a few seconds. Retract the cylinder, same program. Do this a couple of times, then play with your boom. I used to have ugly dreams about having air in a boom cylinder when I was an operator; they were very ugly. So since I am paranoid about this deal, I developed a program on how to keep the dream from becoming a reality. It is sort of like my "lightning avoidance program" with the five count; I don't know if it works, but it has never failed me or anyone that has used it. So try and do this for a nervous old man; it makes me happy. ;~) |

Thanks Bob! You and I must have come from the same school. When ever I change out any hydraulic lines my instincts force me to set up the machine and go through the motions. I just cant help it! I am OCD that way! For example, I changed three turret lines this fall. Had to run it through the motions. One just never knows! If I am going to have trouble. I want trouble out in the yard. Last winter I froze the pig up. Had to pull a lot of it a part, Blew out sections at a time. After it was all put back together. I thought the boom was clean. I felt I did a good job but I was still uneasy. So I set it up and blew a ball through to cover my ass! As usual your insight is greatly appreciated thanks again! |
