I need some power line stories. We need to openly share these stories. These stories will do a few things much needed in our industry. They will bring about awareness, keep us all right minded and work towards saving the lives of those around power lines. So here what I am looking for. Start with waking up that morning and let us know what happened during your day all the way up to the accident, than end bye how you felt, what impact it had on you or your family and what if any changes you have made to keep this from happening again. These stories can come from a spouse or a child of an operator also. I will keep these stories confidential and will post them as unknown author. I believe that when we do something right people will benefit from it so tell your story.
Please call me 805 659-3437 or email me at todd@concretepumping.com
Please do not post your story on the message board. |

This email was just sent to me also. I think everyone should order this CD from the ACPA. The ACPA has the :Ray Ainsworth" Story on DVD (Ray was killed). I remember over 20 years ago seeing the actual remote box with parts of Ray's fingers welded to it. It was the single most sobering thing I've ever seen concerning power line safety. |

The bad news was that it is a true story. The good news is that ne did NOT die. The pour should never have been made with a boom pump. You can not sit in a 20ft wide alley and remain 17 ft from the powerlines. Just say NO thank you ;~) |

Todd about i had the scare of my life i was on this site doing a foundation under a house i pulled into the job saw the lines across the end of the driveway pulled in about 20'past them did the pour no problems swung the boom around to the side of my pump to take off hose & reducer when the boom never stopped swinging pushed the e-stop button still kept swinging tried to unplug the remote from the cable not in time hit the primary line& the secondary lines at the same time set the downtown area in fire with burning plastic pump was ok i received a small jolt up my left arm .i called in to my boss told him to call police he never did police showed up told them were the down wires were the told me they followed the fire to me fire & rescue showed up along with power company told them what happened the wanted to know were the operator was i told the i was the all came and shook my hand the said the last guy that hit those kind of wire looked like a burnt marshmello im fine the pump is ok now all this because a screw inside the remote got jammed in the toggle switch never found out why the e-stop failed to work just changed it anayway this is why i dont like jobs with power lines |

I didnt have an accident but learned a very valuble lesson. Had a second floor deck, set up a 52m putz, stretched out my boom over all my outriggers to check my setup like always. After the sun came up, fog cleared and I learned that 8 feet past the back of the deck was a set of power lines. I was high enough above the deck when i stretched out, i was well above them, but learned my lesson about how the fog can hide even if you can see the boom and the hose, a wire is so small its easily hidden. Super told them to pour the porches as the went but they wouldnt so we went back after the deck was done, and i made them lay it down and drag the mud, they didnt like that at all. Went back a few weeks later to do the third floor, and the wire was taken down. Lesson learned. |
