Over the years things have changed but I wonder.I'm sure there are still some of those nightly beer happenings/gatherings somewhere.May it be in a parking lot (ours was behind a liquior store) and just shoot the breeze.

Although the management frowned on this, much learning took place. This was a place where operators had beer and swapped stories and traded tips.I know it sounds as if a strange learning tool.Does this old practice still go on today?

a few years ago i learned alot of information sitting in the wing house drinking beer eating wings. we were good for about 2 or 3 days a week. I learned ALOT just by them talking. Than later on, get into a bad situation and remember hey ive heard of that before and this is what they told me to do. Saved my butt a few times just remembering. Only able to get the manager there a few times. It was the guys that took care of educating the new guys. And the ones that wouldnt go, had the partys we all hate. I learned alot and swear by learning from elders. And you dont have to be at work to learn.

.....us elders go straight home,Bonanza re-runs come on at 4.Any learning takes place while servicing or in the lunch room.Besides,I can't remember what I did back then :)

I find it odd,a couple hundred looksees and 2 responses. This could only leed me to believe people are affraid to post/admit to partaking or all saints. One can/will learn from this kind of stress free enviroment. To the others,I know what we used to call them.

"90 day wonders" or "shake and bakes",either way they came out 2nd luitenants and knew everything.Wing nite,I like that.More should find out how to learn off the job,and some cry because of these accidents.

Just my opinion

Photobucket Times have changed now, but did like waiting with a couple of the guys for the last pump to get back on a Friday arvo, I learnt a lot listening to my elders, I miss the back in the day stories and sharing a joke over a brew.

Grin,I can think of at least one other roof like that.I know the subject is perhaps not politically correct but so be it.In the 80's here in Denver Les (pumpco) at least let us have use of the slurry shed.We called it the slurry club and one day someone spray painted on the side.

Now appearing "Pumpco suszy and the pumpettes" It remeined for years, was Les ticked.Yes,one can learn in the darndest places.

Yep, drinking beer and sharing pump stories.
We work 12-9 shift, so on the job weekend we usually have a few ones and talk shit about everything, usually pumps.

there are just two rules I learned from a dinosaur in the business first he told me: don't teach a monkey to climb because you'll get the coconuts on your head. second: learn from the mistakes of others because you won't live long enough to make them all yourself
