I need to hear about your first day on the job, or about your first day on your own.

I need some stories. If they are ½ way good I will put them up on this section of the site ok. Check out the ones I have up already. If your story is up let me know and I will put your name on it.

Now this is a world wide assignment so just because your from Sweden Vasa does not mean you get away without doing it.

Just post your story on the message board and I will move it over. Thanks guys this will help me out.

Also please check to see if your in the People in Pumping page. If you’re an operator you should be here.

I worked for a concrete company for years mixer, block trucks, and some time at the drywall part. Had always wanted to run a concrete pump, the guys we always saw were so happy with their job and the money was alot better. So with the encouragement of a supportive wife, I left and got a job pumping.

Day one, I drove to the job, Joe sets up a 42m schwing in between two house pads, we were early which gave me plenty of time for looking over things and playing with the big remote. He pumped the the house on the right swung it over to the left one, and asked if I wanted to try it. I did pretty good for a rookie. From that time on, i did alot of booming but he usually did the washing out, i wrote down every step he did on a notepad and would reread it at night to memorise the order of things. after a few days i was setting it up, him right over my shoulder with everything i did, than i was washing it out too, two weeks after I started he got married and took some time off, told the disbatch that it would be fine to send me out with his pump while he was off, id be fine.

Than my first solo pour was with a crew that ordered a 52, and got a 42. oh boy. he we go, got 400 ordered, pumped going out away from the pump, 5th floor, than moved around to the otherside, with concrete NOT being held like i asked 3 times for them to do, so i moved the pump with 80 yards waiting, set up again and finished the pour. Than i knew i did well when Eddie the hoseman with PeeWees crew came over to me shook my hand and said i did a fine job. Took me a few minutes to get the washout water to work because the switch decided not to work, had to get a bungie which made me nervous so i washed out where i was setting, and thanked the good Lord for our safty.
