I only start wondering if its worth the stress and work to keep it so clean. Isn't it a work horse? Can't be good for the heart if you run a pump and you don't want it to get dirty.

But I am impressed though. Just not my cup of tea.

Todd 09-13-2010
reply profile send pm notify

Hey Beetle Bailey how close are you to those wires?

Dipstick 09-13-2010
reply profile send pm notify

For as far as I know the rules are that you should stand so far from the lines that even when you have the boom streched out completely in the direction of the lines you still have 5 meters or 17 foot distance. so it doesn't matter actualy what distance you keep here.. If this was high voltage its totaly wrong. Duno what this is. Or they might be shut down??? Trying to trick us maybe??

they look closer than they are I keep my 17ft mim just made the hoseman work alittle harder but he went home that day

Dipstick 10-03-2010
reply profile send pm notify

I don't think you understood the 17 feet rule completely. Its like I explained above. So that if the whole pump would tip over (or a hyd. cilinder would brake !!!) you still don't hit the lines.

At least thats how I learned it and that's how they explained it again at the last safety course I took some months ago. This is actualy very wrong.

I must admit I don't always stick completely to the rule but this would go to far for me. Not saying this to bash you but it seems like you want to do it right and you believe you do but you actualy don't..

FunnyBoom 10-03-2010
reply profile send pm notify

If that's the case dipstick then a ton of the pics we have seen on here have been the "wrong" way. The ACPA rule is to maintain at least 17' from the wires and do not boom over them. If you had to make sure the boom would not hit them in case of a tip over you would have to sit 80' away from them.... that's why we use outriggers and dunnage to keep them upright.

Dipstick 10-03-2010
reply profile send pm notify

Just telling you what i've learned. And what says on the safety label and instruction book of my putz. Is there any expert or safety instuctor on the site that knows how it realy is??

And like I said.. A hydro cylinder might break. I just experianced it. It happens quite often. Imagine what a disaster that would be if your boom fals over the lines. But I might be wrong. Or maybe the rules in Norway are more strict (for once)

Dipstick 10-03-2010
reply profile send pm notify

I've been looking on the net to find some more info about it but it seems quite hard to find anything. But we had a long discusion about it at that safety coorse I followed. And that it was almost impossible to follow the rules. (exept if you come with a much smaler pump and move a round a few times.) Ill take a look at the manual again tomorrow, Maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe it's just a recomendation sticker.

And the instructor we had wasn't the biggest expert i think. (although he thought so himself ;-)

FunnyBoom 10-03-2010
reply profile send pm notify

I'm not doubting you at all dipstick. But it would be nearly impossible to do alot of jobs with a boom pump if you followed that rule. Same goes for setting up cranes. Imagine a 300' tall Crane. It would have to be at least 300' away from wires to keep from hitting them if catastrophe struck.

Dipstick 10-04-2010
reply profile send pm notify

I double checked it. Its actualy like I said, At least... That's what putz and schwing prescribe..

It is actualy quite an important issue for us operators and also owners because with this rule the manufacturer is not responsible for any dammage to powerlines when his machine fails. So if a boom would come down due to a mistake of the manufacturer he can never be responsible for dammage to the powerlines and all the consequenses that follow (loss of lives etc) because the pump should never be able to fall on the lines whatever happens. (unless it was picked up by a tornado ;-)
