Never collected a dime of unemployment - made my own job, Mikes Collectable and Antique Flea Market - mikesunique.com

If you become unemployed don't whine - use your skills of being an operator and do what you want to do.  The skills I refer to are being dependable, on time, in charge, responsible, safe.   When an operator is on the job he is responsbile for in many cases machinery worth over $200,000 - he has the life and well being of all who work around him on his mind.  Good Operators know how to work independently, take care of their equipment and how to work with people.  Those skills are needed in every type of work.  Sell yourself on those skills.

So far this year I've been driving mixertrucks, easy job, easy money and easy hours.
But on monday I'll be back at my old job, running a nice, almost new, Putz 36, even easier money and hours. :D

Hey Dipstick. Yep, back to Bergen. But first a couple of trips to Haugesund, and later in the winter Finnmark.
Will be nice to get some more -40 C pumping experience. :D

I went the other way with this subject. I spent the better part of 10 years working in the oilpatch on drilling rigs. Things slowed down real bad in Alberta then my wife & I had a baby, so last winter I changed careers(which was a tough one to swallow). So far I love it. Same kind of thing as my old job. Operate equptment, pay attention to hundreds of things going on around you all while trying not to kill anyone! I wish I had started doing this years ago.

I used to run a Schwing 8800 and a Schwing 61m, god how i miss it. While my Dad and I were pumping a highrise hotel on the strip in Vegas, well... cleaning out the tower system rather, he was severly injured and now medicaly retired. Right after that I started learning all I could about OSHA regs so I could run the super that caused the accident off the job or be a nightmear for the safety dept till they got rid of him. Now with no pumping work in Vegas, I'm now working as a Safety rep/Mine Rescue Team Medic for a Tunneling Company (funny how things work out) Im hopping to take a leave of absence from the safety side, to run our 36m late next year out on a barge in the middle of the lake to pump a huge footing 350' under water. it makes me cry knowing my old pump is sitting somewhere collecting dust.
