I use a 5 to 3 reducer with a 3" hose.  I then have a putmeister pour pin on the end of the hose.  I pump very low rpm and low volume....works fantastic.  Go around and pour below all the window frames first, then start on the top of the wall.  If it is real tall make several passes.  It is best if the hoseman can move easily along the top of the wall on nice scaffolding.  I did a job once where the hoseman was constantly moving a ladder....that takes a long time waiting for hoseman to move and then get ready again.  The photo shows a 123 yarder I pumped in Truckee.  http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=Recap&gameNumber=414&season=20062007&gameType=3

Actually Derputzmeister an excellent program. It is what I used for a long time when pumping.I didn't put anything on the hose, liability.I found 2" hose to much of a hazzard, for many reasons.Like what?.It will jump 8' with a minor obstruction,so 3" is correct. If they built the wall right your on target.I used to carry a piece of 4 ft.chain link fence to put over grate, for those oh so special moments.I did use a double 3" 90 at bottom of reducer.I am big into ICF for landscaping walls.

Fist off i hate rams horns, I use a metric 5 to 3 reducer with a 9 ft 3" whip hose, get you a piece of expanded still, the stuff you see on grills, this will stop anything to large from going in your hopper, works for me.

Do ya'll feel it is the pumpers responsibility to use an "other than manufactures grate" for use with a 3" hose? Should the factory supply you with one? Do you wait until you have a problem to put it on, or do you install it before the pour begins?

An interesting thought.I would say using a second grate with 3" would be penny wise.If the operator is on top of things he will put it on first. We are probably all guilty at some point of just going for it (I am),only to get bit in the end.The secrete is how to recover.

I user a rams horn then a 3" whip hose ,on the end of the whip hose I lash heavy duty water discharge hose that acts as a kind of milking gland, very easy to use.No extra grating in the hopper, yes the people at the plant should be responsible for a workable mix.Personally I think that ICF is a pain in my................

I pump all my ICF as I do a standard foundation. I use a 4 " tip hose and some other equipment that I care not to mention.

Allen

2 90's and a reducer? That is the way I was taught many years ago. Very dangerous.

I agree Russ. The three " tip hose is the way to go. I have the set up but instead of a 5-3 straight I have a 5-3 reducing elbow. It seems to get hung up a lot. The three " tip is like frosting a cake.

Herman,

I think you have just the ticket for ICF work. Not all pump jobs are boom jobs.

I was going to mention that next Allen, you must have been reading my mind. It is sweet. Smooth flow too. I have not poured one of those walls in a long time though.

How about the Ruff Neck Reducing Hose (5" to 3")?  It's currently the safest thing out there for ICF.  Would you like to talk to someone who's using these in this application with great success, give me a shout.

I am with TomCF. If you are going to BOOM an ICF pour, the only safe, smart, intelligent method is a CONFORM REDUCING HOSE. It has all the features:

1. No metal/man killing end on end hose

2. Reduction over 10 feet to gradually reduce to discharge diameter

3. One hose hanging off of boom = less boom load and 1 safety strap.

THIS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL.... IT IS A FACT!!!!!!

I'm going to try that piec of chain link fence next time I do grout with my 5 to 3" reducer and my 9'x3" hose.  Good Idea.
