What would you rather do, lose $2.00/yd on 200 yds or on 100,000 yds?

That's just what you do if you cut the rate - it's profit that is the first dollar cut, and the second, and....soon you're cutting it to below the cost of doing the work.  You might as well have taken the red-eye to Bermuda and sipped Pina Colada's on the beach, it's a hell of a lot more fun to go broke doing that, than while operating a concrete pump as a charity.

Don't get me wrong, you can get competitive without being a whore.

for exemple. min price per hour is the same but 10% per yard price cut. not every whore is the same price

It's funny but I go through the price cutting even in snow removal.I lost my contract on a really big account 2 times due to false promises and rate cutting.Both times I got those contracts back with an increased rate.We are both service providers in this case,customer relations plays a big role.

Would I lower my price? Not on a whim!!

The problem is that not all of us are at the same profit margin some of the big guys will dump the price just to get cash flow we all are fighting this theres still a base rate we should be getting and a bare min we should get per size of machine some customers care only about price some service try to go for the ones that care about service more than price every time you drop price they think he did it cheaper last time lets see if he will go cheaper hold your price dont ware out your iron and not be able to repair it

 We have people who come here from the big city and, use some of the bigger companies who will cut prices to get the job. We give them a good rate our 28M rate is as low as we go. They choose the bigger companies who dont even charge travel on 2 hours, how I dont know but, eventually we always pump for them because the big boys cant make it that day. Then the customer gets full rate and, complain that they were supposed to get the 28 rate and, we tell them well you are only using us in an emergency and, you would have got the rate had you used us for the whole project, but having us for convience costs now.

 The larger companies have tried getting a foot hold up here with my customers and, have been SOL. Even though our rates are higher, they know we actually give them service and, that we are 100% reliable. Actually we are all pretty much friends up here in N.Az, that is why I work up here. Fact is everyone up here in the industry is friends. Life is good. Slow but good.

When I worked in the mountains (Summit County,Co) it was just that way.There was 2 pump companies and we were friends.We often had lunch,drank beers and told stories,my time with Paul Duffy shall always be remembered.The last things anyone could take was respect and our word.

What if economy is getting better and the rates are getting normal than you have a shitty job in your stomage for the next 1.5 year while everybody else is getting normal prizes. are you happy than?
