In all the industrial plants we work in we have to fill out a JSA(Job Safety Analysis) before we begin work.Wouldnt it be a good practice to have one of these with the placing crews and contractors everytime(morning, evening, afternoon) before we start a pour that way we could let the hosemen know the times when to step away from the hose and when to continue with his normal routine,at the very little we have done something to try and inform them about the dangers associated with concrete pumps. |

that sounds like a good idea but, how many times have you told a hoseman not to hug the hose or dont kink the hose on a system pour, if you started now the next generation might get it but the immediate solution is to not operate the pump if you feel someone is not being safe or wont comply with you direction., the operator might be job scared maybe theres trucks stacked up as far as the eye can see but at a point we need to have the intestinal fortitude to just STOP THE PUMP then they will listen. |

Pudg, When you, or any other pumping company, knows that you have been awarded a contract with one of those plants you have an opportunity. The safe/smart move is to hand a copy of the ACPA “Co-worker safety rules†book to the contractor that awarded the work. You can also hand them out to the crew before you are even on the job. That booklet doesn’t have all the answers; but it has a lot of information than they would NOT otherwise have. Here in Hotlanta, a company that I worked for gave a pile of co-worker safety and ready mix driver safety booklets to every operator. For one month, every operator handed out a copy to every job he was on. These were given to the folks that are there ‘where the concrete gets poured’ and not sitting in an office somewhere. A strange thing happened; the accident rate went WAY DOWN. There is a saying, “Forewarned is Forearmed†If we want to make it safer it helps to let all of our co-workers know WHERE THE DANGER IS. |
