We were required to pour a concrete plug on either side of a tunnel running underwater from the Gladstone mainland to Curtis Island which is the new home of 3 new LNG plants in Queensland, Australia. We had a 48M boom on the mainland side and a 36M boom on the Island side of the pour. All of these photos are from the mainland side.

We started this job over the Easter long weekend on the Saturday and Finished on the following Saturday with the Friday off (Australian Public Holiday - Anzac Day.) The pour consisted of 7 day shift pours and 4 night shift pours. Over the course of this pour we were required to do 4 300mm lifts on a 1.5 meter radius gas line as the engineers were concerned with the gas line floating. We did these 4 lifts using 60 meters of 5" pipe and 20 meters of 3 1/2" hose.

Once we were near the top of the pipe, we connected to a 80 meter long 5" pipe that was supported on the roof by rollers and pulled out with an electric winch as the pour progressed. The tunnel had a radius of 4 meters.

Also, running out of the tunnel on a slight uphill grade was 190 lineal meters of the gas pipeline which needed to be covered in concrete. We filled a Peri form system which was 4 meters wide by 2.5 meters high.

All up on the mainland side, I estimate we poured about 1600m3. We were required to move to and from the tunnel as the contractors had different parts of the pour ready. A fun job to be a part of, something different, and also a great pay week for all of us operators and linehands.
