What is going on? I have had three emails and a phone call this weekend about regional pump shows. Sort of a ‘local’ WOC. I think that the ACPA mini expo in What do you think? Would you go to a ‘local’ pump show? Is it a good idea? How far would you drive to check out the different makes of pumps and pump gear? |

Hi Bob No thanks from at least one manufacturer. The cost of renting a booth, rooms and entertainment, transporting pumps across the country and back is very expensive. A small booth and expenses can easily cost a manufacturer $100,000 dollars. Figure how many pumps a manufacturer sells and add this cost to each pump. Does the purchaser really want us to go to 3 or 4 shows? I believe bring your best to the WOC and or Con expo, show the owners and operators a good time and lets go back to work. Terry Terry |

Why a roadshow. Every current pump business / possible buyer has a job to demo Brand \"X\" against his present choice of brand \"Y\" If the big boy boom pump manufacturers and the pumping association had any \"balls\" they would open the big mass pours that happen every month or so and invite the \"would be sellers\" to bring a rig and pump some mud against other \"wanta B\'s\" All the metal looks great standing on a padded carpet with bright lights. If you want to debate the features & benefits of your present rig, run some mud against others on a mass pour. WOC is a drug, you show up once and have to taking a dose every future year. The alternative is \"Oh yeh, they were here last year ....... not here this year, guess they are out of business\" Some years ago the Two Huns realised they were \"Hooked\" but did not have the \"you know what\" to either down size or pull out. Maybe no trust between countrymen. |

This isn\'t my idea. I thought it strange that three people made it an issue this weekend. I just wondered what the general feeling was. The expense was the first thing that I thought of. Digger has an interesting concept, job-site pump war; excellent idea. That would soon seperate the wheat from the chaff. ;~) |

Mr.Bob,I can\'t believe you said a \"pump war\",pitting one pump against another is asking for trouble;-} |

Bob maybe means a \"pump debate\" don\'t tell me the lady & the coloured man\'s debates are not war. P Correct people can call them an \"onsite demonstration\" using \"real time & real live material\" Which everway you dress it up, if a manufacturer is not willing and able to have his pump operate on a job site using the same mud and environment then, as a possible buyer ...... one would be suspect. Now, it could be said that you can pump a lot of concrete free under such circumstances ....... to eliminate this, the contractor would pay for each pump as if it\'s a normal job and the manufacturer & pumping contractor would come to a mutual side deal. No one out of pocket and money kept in a tight circle. |

IT would be an interesting event. One brand may be smoother, one pump faster, one boom bounce champ........ who knows. I would buy a ticket. All the sales hype and BS would be left at the gate, for sure. |

Bob, Do you want the ticket selling consession or do we give it to the company that sells tickets to the \"Heavy Metal Bands\"

How \'bout loading them up with some boney mix and see which one makes it ,or maybe setting up a demonstration on changing wear rings or jugs.I do know this from experience that different models from the same manufacturer may act quite differently.Model A may have a real sloppy boom while Model B might have a boom that handles very well.I believe a big part of boom pump functionality is how well a boom handles and the simplicity of washing out and closing up a pump.Of course you can take the best pump and dog it,I mean inproper PTO and clutch engagement techniques, inproper driving technique, stressing components needlessly, basically spending too much time on the cell phone and not looking over your rig.Do you purge your hydraulic tank daily?Do you warm the trans. and PTO oil before jamming down the road?A good pump is only as good as the person behind the sticks. |
