I'm a concrete contractor wanting to buy a couple of boom pumps! Is it worth looking at a pumpstar or concord or maybe cifa? Or should I stick with putz or schwing? I had a couple of pumpstar pumps offered to me at a very good price. My concern is I don't know any company that owns one in Louisiana.

look at the site sponosrs I would email or call them all and see how they treat you. When you buy a pump you enter into a long term relationship.

if your looking at a used pump please go to www.UsedConcretePumps.com

Which brand of pumps

Contrary to what pumpnfinish said, I have always had good experiences with Pumpstar pumps. They closed their doors yes, but not because they had a bad product.

Concord and Cifa are both good pumps. The guys at Irving Equipment can help you with either of those.

Putz is a good pump, but you'll probably pay more for it.

I have heard the same about pumpstar a couple of sources say they are good pumps.  I hear cifa is good also but parts may take awhe to get to due most come out of Italy. The only negative I have heard on concord is the electrical wires. Are sensative to  water

There is a reason why you dont see to many used putzmeisters or schwings for sale and the ones you do see bring a high price.  They seem to be the pump of choice.

If you buy brand new I would stay away from putz. They've gone over the top with electrics and computers. Lots of problems that even our 30 year experianced mecanic can't figure out. Way to many switches. So complicated to get the machine to do what you want that it takes the focus away from whats realy happening around you..

I ran a 40m concord for a year. It was the greatest pump I've ever had. There where only 2 down sides with it.

1- The hopper is greased automaticly and it used a hel of a lot of grease.

2 it was rusting like hell. But that had some special reasons. First of all they use tons and tons of salt on the road in our town in the winter. And this pump was assembled by a spanish company called JMBH. So it was actualy a copy of a concord. Exactly the same but build by JMBH. They did a horrific job on the paint work.

I like the way the 3rd and 4th section would bend so many degrees up which made that big  pump very usable on inside jobs aswell. Could get 2 and a half section in to a 4,5meter high door Cool

Also a very small footprint and compact truck and still very stable..

I mis that pump Frown

This is the one. Great pump for inside and outside jobs. Big poors, anything. I think this is the one you should buy Wink

Or the 38 roll and fold for all I care. Guess they are quite much the same..

Putzmeister 40Z is a fantastic machine. It is consistently the most utilized machine in our fleet. Similar net reach to a 42 meter, same truck/footprint as a 36 meter, makes for a very versatile machine. Other manufacturers will go on all day about the drawbacks of the 4.6" pipe (standard pipe is 4.8") but in my opinion unless you're doing big yardage it's not a real issue.

We have a fleet of Putzmeisters and are extremely happy with not only the quality of the machines, but also the parts and service. Also, I think having a guy like Travelteck on this site posting tech tips and helping members to troubleshoot problems is a real testament towards Putzmeisters commitment to customer service and support.

Just another happy Putzmeister customer.

there is a company in louisiana that has both pumpstar and cifa. bayou pumping in laplace has both.

i run a new putz and they are nice but like they said they have alot of electronics and computers on them, the big down side to putz is there are no dealers close if you have problems, and  when you call them it may take 2 or 3 hours to ever get threw to them on the phone unless you want to sit on hold for an hour. and i have called there 24 hour line at 3 am and did not get a call back til 8 am. just my little rant on putz, i had an issue this past week that 2 techs from putz told me 2 different diagnoses over the phone and they were both wrong. i found the problem myself, something that they told me could not be the problem.

i hope we go back to schwing next time

im leaning towards schwing. 3 pump companies here in town they all have schwing feet. one company has 2 sermacs and they always have problems we finish alot of concrete aroudnthe area and evertime they send out the sermac they cannot pump a rocky mix

Schwing for me. 6 years running an older schwing and not one breakdown.  I have pumped the competitors jobs when their concords, alliance, putz and pumpstars have broke down. jmo

If you're looking to make a small fortune pumping concrete, better start with a large fortune!

^^^ Reminds me of the irishman joke, who bought 1kg of potatoes for $1 dollar and sold them for 5 cents per/ Kg. After 3 years or trading he became a millionaire. How did this happen??

Answer: He used to be a Billionaire.

Schwing sounds like a good option. But don't let them fool you with extras in form of computers.. I used to runn a brand new schwing 52m for a year. GREAT machine but it was fitted with a so called ''comford-system'' A computer that starts to blow the horn and activates the emergency stop when something is wrong. It works with a lot of sensors and stuff. Honestly 99 of 100 times there was nothing wrong. Just moist in a sensor or something. Some jobs it happened like 25 times in 5 hours... Just drives you mad!! And when there realy was something wrong... Silence..

I rann a load of other Schwings in that time without that system and NO problems..

Try to buy a basic model with just the equipment you want. Not sure if Schwing is flexible like that. Its been a long time that I had anything to do with Schwing. I know Putz can not change anything for you. No special wishes.. Its their way or the highway.  But hey.. If you are the best in the world.. How can anyone tell you you should do something different Wink

Putz Scwing Concord or others....no matter what you buy one day you will sell it. Schwing and Putz cost a little more to buy but will always have resale value.maybe concord too. Same pump $20,000 give or take between Schwing & Putz ( I run older gear 1999,2000 ) that 20,000 only costs you $500/month for 4 years But when you sell it you will probably get $16,000 hard cash more. That's the way I roll.
