And wait till ya get the "it's the j-link" story (think that was it),Trans problems up the kazoo,Have to watch what rear springs are under it,all glass develops leaks and rattle, cab to small "I hate eating steering wheels" and the biggy "no cup holder" Other than this and others ask what's good about them.Oh,and it's always operator error. |

JUST HAD 2006 LOOSE HIGH LOW RANGE 88000MILES NO WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE LIMITED TO THE 310 MACK TEN SPEED HAVE LOTS OF OTHER MACKS(MIXERS, TRACTORS, ETC.)NO PROBLEMS. IT IS A COMMON OPINION THAT THE DOUBLE REDUCTION MACK REAR ENDS DON'T LIKE LONG HAUL DRIVING. TO MUCH HEAT BUILD UP, MAY BE?? |

I was always bragging on macks until 2007 when I started having problems seems as though they got a bad batch of transmissions, the spun main bearing was just a bad bearing can happen to any motor, but when they take a month and a half to fix it that isnt acceptable, then on the transmission with 25000 miles less than 1500 hrs and to tell me that I shifted from lo to hi while backing in reverse cmon its a pump truck not a delivery truck how many cases do you get up fast enough in reverse to go into hi me and this truck never so it took some arguing and coercing but they finally stood up to it ,13 months later lost hi range and they would not fix it told me it was gonna be 7,000 dollars I paid them 1500 for labor but it still isnt rite and I know its not gonna last,so for me mack has shot his wad its a shame they dont handle there business a little better we all have problems its how you handle them that keeps people coming back or runs them to another type of truck. |

well before 07, they are 100% work trucks. driven my share of trucks and macks are tough. yes there are lemons out there, but when i compare the abuse those trucks take on a normal day let alone the rough ones, they do pretty good in my opinion. id love to drive a european truck to compare. |

short stik- love to drive a european ...merc 12 speed(6 on a splitter) wil last about 30 months if you are lucky, then the selectors go, so you are not alone with crap transmissions. |

Well I can resolve one problem, the cup holder. Didn't take me long to spill my coffee so I figured this out. Not the invention of the year, but I appreciate it. Go to Walmart and get a two cup cd wallet holder and duct tape it to the top of the motor box. It works great! |

Easy fix, just take the roll of quack tape set on the doghouse, change cup size and done deal. |

murf, that why i said drive and not own. what kind of HP are those Merc pushing? |

murf | 06-06-2009 | reply profile send pm notify |
shortstk, we get a standard chassis for mixer, pumps tippers etc either with a gutless 6 litre 280 lump or a slightly better 330 unit on a 7 litre , which now comes with a range change 8 spd. this still has problems with the selectors. Next step up is the actros which starts at 330 . On the macks whose transmission is this? , we used to run foden (paccar) with an eaton 8 spd, the back half of the box was the range change which again, was pure crap. |
