Mack vs Auto Car

These shots are from Con Ag. Now we did not take any outside shots of the Mack and that is because we all know what they look like.

Went to the Mack Booth 6 times and nobody came up and talked to me. Auto Car guys came right up and answered all my questions.

Hey Todd,

How's CONAGG, heard there is a large orange boom in the air... Have you or anyone else seen an American LaFrance truck chassis anywhere? I have seen a few running around the Seattle area with garbage trucks on them... Lots of side glass etc... Just curious.

Yes it is a automatic. I know that some pump owners have told Autocar that they need to make a few changes to the truck and they are looking into that. One thing that I did notice was the cab is not air-ride.

Yawn for sure.

It looks more like a garbage truck than a garbage truck. You would 'trip' on the front bumber going over a curb.

Perhaps a poll of sorts of what we as operators may want to see in a truck for this industry.

1) Larger cab

speedy i don't now what you mean by air-ride?

For some reason I just can not figure out why we (US PUMPERS) can not have that same Volvo cab as the Europeans.

Volvo must have a bunch of engineers that could make it work. They could throw in the engine and transmission as well.

And what happens to your new Mack when you blow a turret elbow?...... how many cooling fans do you need on one engine?

The real fact of the matter is that we are too small a group to have anyone care about what we want.

Speedy,

Autocar has increased the cab depth by nine inches for head room and six inches behind the seat.  The front looks like the old Expeditor, but that is where the resemblance ends.  This is a new cab with actual body in white changes for added driver comfort.  The frame is the strongest single frame in the industry and will suit the needs of the concrete pumping industry.

Is an air ride cab a feature everyone wants?

OK, you are sitting in your office on your comfortable chair surrounded by at least a modicum of creature comforts. Not a bad place to be.

My question, and this is to all truck mfg's is; Why should you not have the same degree of respect for the pump operator in his 'office' as your boss has for you? Why is it that the European mfg's treat their customers to a much superior environment? Cardboard and molded plastic do not say much in the way of "thanks for purchasing our truck over the competition, we appreciate the fact that you are forced to be there and we want to make this a nice, safe comfortable place to be while you drive."

Come on guys, do you consider an operator as a sub human, undeserving of a decent place to sit?

These guys have a hard job (at times) and appreciate a little respect.

Thanks for the feed back.  These work trucks have been designed around commercial functionality and long term ROI more than the European models.  We are in a free market that is not regulated by government and therefore each option must be suited to the business before the customers will pay for the option.  We just want to know what is important to the customer and listen.  We will make changes and provide options for you.

By the way Bob, my chair is not nearly as comfortable as the air ride, high back with adjustable lumbar seat provided in the new Autocar.

Thanks

Nasty and more nasty. Why do you have to ruin the look of a lovely machine with those cabs?

I didn't know that those were available in the large capacity trucks (real trucks)

The cut to the chase deal on a really nice cab is the extended version. I do not know if that would alow clearance and access to the turrett area????? But it would make the interior environment much nicer for the troops. And yes, that small/nice mack was a sweetheart. I think that it was a BullFrog model.
