AN Orange building worker has been critically injured on a site in West Orange after being pinned under a concrete pump boom that collapsed around 7.30am. Paramedics sedated the 49-year-old man as Orange Fire and Rescue officers worked frantically to dig out the man, who was trapped after the boom collapsed on him at a building site near the corner of Maraposa Street and Gala Crescent in a development site off Forbes Road. The work of Fire and Rescue officers was complicated by building materials surrounding the victim, including metal, wood and star pickets, with a crane employed to help in the operation. The man was rushed to Orange hospital where he is now undergoing emergency treatment. Police and Workcover officials remain at the site where investigations will continue throughout the day. Shocked workers who were on-site with the man when the accident occurred are expected to be interviewed by police and Workcover this morning. The man is expected to be flown to Sydney this morning for specialist medical treatment at Westmead hospital. |

In Australia, isn't it a requirement to get a yearly inspection after the truck gets so old? Im pretty sure that I heard that from one of my pumping friends who lives there |

you do have to get inspections, but it is up to the owner of the truck to get it done, which means that alot of ppl never do it. |

I know that often it is not the manufactures fault for an outrigger to brake. I heard of one case where the operator forgot to close one and took out a telephone pole, lol see not the manufactures fault. |

Looks like an early 2000s model transcrete with antonelli boom! Unfortunately due to the down turn in build here in Australia many owner are neglecting maintance, hopefully not the case here! A reminder of how important it is to do daily checks for signs of fatigue to all structural components of the boom and sub frame! |
