Over the years there has been a lot of discussion on mounting wear plate, onto the hopper. Some call them Spectacle plates. In times past it was just throw them on and bolt them up tight and you’re good. Today it is a little different you need to set it properly to get the proper operation, performance and wear out of your wear parts. This is from the parts pages in your manual but some times it can be difficult to locate so this might help.
Maximum plate Distortion of the spectacle plate is 0.5 mm or .019 inch this plate needs to be as flat as possible to prevent binding of the cutting ring as it shifts.
Ensuring the hopper is clean is foremost. Just bolting the plate down tight to the hopper is a fatal flaw it will warp and crack the plate or cause distortion. Next is the correct setting and TORQUING of the bolts As you see in the Maintenance page there is a pattern to bolting it up The bolts in the center labeled A are torqued to 210 Nm or 155 Ft lb The bolts on the outer edges labeled B are torqued to 100 Nm or 74 Ft lb NOTE: the edges of the plate will NOT be tight against the hopper. When you are done you are done a straight edge will confirm the plate is flat, you can fill the void around the hopper and plate with silicone if you wish. This will help a lot with plate life wear and even boom performance.
Next time I will talk about the correct way to set the cutting ring tension. Safe Pumping TT

Don't chip away the concrete on the bottom of the old plate.Makes starting bolts on the new plate easy. |
