Hi everyone! I am new to the pumping business. I currently live in a new neighborhood in California, and I see at least one cement truck a day in my surrounding area. Every time that I have called a pump, there has always been at least a 3 day wait. I see huge potential. I am looking to purchase a Reed B70 line pump and looking to start my own business pumping. I would greatly appreciate any help that I can get from anyone already in the business. I will be investing roughly 100k. Is the pumping business lucrative? What is the best way to get new business? What is a realistic number of jobs per day during the first year? Is it a very difficult learning curve? Besides the pump breaking down, what is the #2 job killer. Is there any other advice you have? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!Charles :quest:

I would have to say that poor service/attitude is the #1 job killer. If you are willing to work hard, and i mean hard, then you can make it. It is not easy Hours can be odd. Work will come and go. But.........It is worth it. At least it is to me

Hi csplee, i totally agree with alan1 ,Inv est your 100k &go to work for someone else ,as alan1 stated its not as easy as it looks &there is a great deal to learn. I Have been in the pumping industry for 30 years here in Australia &seen far too many people in your situation putting a financial noose around their neck & not make the grade. To be a good operator there is a great deal to learn & as a owner operator there is a great deal more to learn,Iam not saying dont eventualy buy your own pump but invest your money &go to work for someone else,at least that way you will gain on the job experience& learn a few of the pittfalls that you will come across in our fine industry at their expense not yours GOOD LUCK regards Dennis PS and just when you think you know it all DONT KID YOURSELF this is one industry where you never stop learning ;) G!DAY FROM AUSSIE
