Well Merry Christmas to you. Obviously you are young and proud of the Union. Give them time and they will "LOSE" your retirement also. Do you ever wonder why there are no Union Operators in Florida to speak of. After the money was "LOST" the 2nd time we got smart and got out. Always up for a good discussion on the value of the Union of Operating Engineers. Lets discuss what they did in Houston, Austin, Mississippi, Florida, Columbia and the list goes on. But I am sure some die hard advocates will have a very very good reason to support them. I know you will have the standard line of we are different, the govt watches us etc. Good Luck LOL

Dont know what is young to you, But I am 35 years old. started running a boom at age 21. that equals 14 years in the union. everybody has different opinions. but I will have a great retirement and they take care of my family as far as benefits,,vacation ,etc. they set forth a standard here in the bay area like no other as far as wages go . sorry if you had a bad experience out your way .  but I am not here to argue union stuff. I joined this site to meet some friends and talk with fellow pump operators. good luck to you also.

The main reason to work for a union company is the operator gets paid what he is worth to perform a job that is very hard.  Not what some pump owner decides to pay.  As little as he can get away with.

Big Ed:  thanks for the response, not sure of your question are you asking me what size boom I run? I have been running pumps for 11 years now from 28 schwings ,even ran a 16 and a 24z a few tmes. I am on a 2005 Putz 42. back up on 32's ,36's 38's, and I operate one of our 52 schwings about once a week.

So Big Ed - have you invited the IUOE to come run your company?  If you are so proud of the Union then invite them into your business - don't say they are no in your area because the IUOE will go anywhere. 

The only people the union looks out for is themselves.  Anyone want detailed specific info on what the IUOE has done over the years let me know and I will send to you.  Have any of you union wanks looked up the reports the union has to send in to the fed where they HAVE to report what they pay each other with your money!  LOL  Wake up and smell the coffee

ever seen an illegal immigrant with a union book?  keep in mind that if a pump company owner can get it done cheaper they will.  it aint talking shit if tou can back it up.

WOW ! Did not know, this post would turn into a small battle over union vs. non union. I have been busy slinging mud. we have just been swamped this holiday season. I Came back to check and we are all on different topics.  well hope everyone is staying busy and had a great new year ! It kind of reminds me of this guy I used to work with: he always had a special pump kit , or bigger material cylinders , more horse power, or the boom manufacturer made his boom 3 inches longer as a test,etc. if you catch my drift ....LOL
