Is this a water reducing agent? Can anyone tell me what the acronym stands for? Pumped 50 yds of the following mix:

Sand: 1895 lb/yd

Rock: 1400 lb/yd 1X4

cement: 470  lb/yd

NRWRC494: 14.10 oz./yd

Mix was a 5 sk. pumped great through my 2.5" line. I have always been leary of 5 sk mixes. I am trying to learn my mixes, any help would be appericated.

why don't you ask the ready-mix people that delivered it?

Raymond, this is perhaps the best deffinition I could find.I checked Grace/Masterbuilders and that number didn't show up.

Water reducing admixtures

Water reducing admixtures require less water to make a concrete of equal slump, or increase the slump of concrete at the same water content. They can have the side effect of changing initial set time. Water reducers are mostly used for hot weather concrete placing and to aid pumping. A water-reducer plasticizer, however, is a hygroscopic powder, which can entrain air into the concrete mix via its effect on water's surface tension, thereby also, obtaining some of the benefits of air-entrainment

what do you mean by a "5 sk. mix"?

never seen 'NRWRC494' on a bill before.  water reducing admixtures are usualy labeled 'Plasticizer - 1l/m' out here

60/40 is a good line mix. i have done it with six sack and if you add water it will separate. do not let the plant short you on powder, its dumb to save eight bucks a yard.

"simple, ask the ready mix company that delivered it"... great, thanks for the insight on where to check... ahmm, anyhow I really like this site and figured I'd check here. HRWR from what I understand is a high range water reducing agent. Here in Ca, U.S. 5sk simply means 5 94lb bags of cement per yard of concrete. 470/94=5. Every supplier is different, just thought I'd see if anyone had experience with this specific acronym.

'Round here, there are 8 redi-mix companies.  You could order 10 yards of 6 sak pea-rock,w/super-P from each company - and every company will have a deffrent product code for their mix design.

Thanks for that  , you may have just solved a problem of ours, in that when the local readymix supplier-hanson uses AEA and/or WRA we struggle to pump on a 4" line( their materials arent always the best either). WRA therefore increases the air content percentage.
