Recently I have seen where operators seem to think they run the companies and this justifies unsafe actions. So here's a silent test,no responses required, see where you fit in.

Owners have a huge investment and always look at ways to control costs.I'm not talking cutting wages or benifits, more beyond that.Things such as daily operating needs for the contractor (ie) system, repair parts, primer, everyones safety, company policies, insurance, workers comp, quality equipment, yearly looks at his/her risk factors.

The manager enforces the company policies, ensures safe operation, sees that employees follow the guidlines.Just to name a few.

The operator follows the above, enforcing the owners rules. Not only that but are educated on the safety rules set by the pump manufacturer. Also close calls should be reported to the owner/manager/safety dept as it happens. Now the rub,at what point does a operator become a to high of a risk factor? Just to name a few, driving (to aggressive),takes pump for granted (the owner will fix),unsafe set ups/dunnage,cutting corners,no common sense.

Yearly a auditor/risk assesor visits the company, this helps determine if the risk has increased or decreased and rates are based on this.

So ask yourself this,am I a team player? There is no "I" in team.Do you make a meaningful contribution to the company? Am I replaceable with someone that is? Could I be that "ricky racer" I always refer to?

Personally in this economy I would always be watching my own back doing things the right way.The smaller pump companies usually have someone in mind befor they let you go,not all.Remember the one bad apple story,it's true.

Some here do get it,some don't,take the silent test.Yes,i'm a business owner.Yes,i'm thankfully still insured.Yes,I look at my risk factors on a daily basis,as all owners should. For the ones that failed the test, they will eventually get to you.To the ones that passed, your a star.Remember the world needs ditch diggers too.

TAKE THE SILENT TEST IF YOU DARE.No responses needed.
