Pride in Profession-A little nice goes a long way

Hey Guys,

One trick I learned when I ifrst started pumping is to be nice to everyone. Many times you can defuse a tense situation with a smile and joke. I try to treat everyone onsite with dignity and respect. It has paid dividends ten times over. I have guys I don't know well come up to me all the time saying hey your the pump guy from Forney, I want to get you out to my job. Now I am not the best in the world and I have my off days when it comes to running the boom, but most of that is forgotten when I take the time to get to know the contractors/finishers/and mixer drivers. It also makes the jobs go much faster. They are more willing to tailgate that last few yards then making you sit the 1 1/2 hours on the tag load. Give it a try, be the bigger man and play nice with your big toys, the other kids like that. another thing is to show pride in the job you do by arriving on time, with a clean truck and a good attitude. I do my best to leave my personal problems at home and start each day fresh, even if I just had a bad experience with the crew the day before.

I could not agree with you more Russ!  I my self am by far not the best pump operator but I may be one of the nicest operators. People know I am easy to get along with and that they do not have to worry about my end. When I do have a problem there is a lot of people to offer help. The hot heads I know, mixers drivers will bury the hopper in 4 feet of mud just to let them have it. Being the nice guy works and it is good for the bottom line. I like to be 15 minutes early so I can enjoy my work.
