Pump for Profit

We are looking for ideas so

ROBBERwe can change the direction of our industry.

It is not a crime to make a profit pumping concrete!

At the Dallas, Texas seminar on October 5th, 2011, Mr. Ben Snyder will be conducting seminars to show each attendee how to breakdown the cost of pumping concrete by the hour and by the yard. So that in return you can take your costs and apply them and arrive at the true cost it takes in order to make a profit for you company.

As an example, our industry for the past 30 years has been stuck at charging $2.00 per yard to cover the maintenance, fuel, labor, shop rent etc. Our company costs have been running in the high threes the past year. Competitors force us to compete in the 2.00 range. Why?

Our industry has given away some of the items we need back in order to make a profit.

1.         Charge Portal to Portal for our equipment

2.         Charge overtime before 6:00 am and after 6:00 pm or 8 hours.

3.         5 Hours Minimum morning - 3 Hour Minimum afternoon.

4.         Charge the true cost of providing each size pump by the foot.

5.         Charge Overtime for Saturday or Sunday.

6.         Charge for delivery system to job that was not ordered.

7.         Charge for Late cancelations

8.         Charge for system over 50 feet or etc.

9.         Don't sign subcontract agreements- YOU ARE NOT A SUBCONTRACTOR.

Until Dallas - October 5, 2011, I will send out something for each of us the think about prior to Dallas Seminars. Please give me back your comments and input each week so we can discuss them at our meeting.

Send in the attached seminar registration. We all need to be there if we are going to make a change for our industry at this meeting.

This week... What is your percentage of payroll hours for each customer hour?

This will amaze

Example:

Sales, Office employees -   hours: _____________

Mechanics, Laborers -        hours: _____________

Operators -                        hours: _____________

You or your spouse            hours: _____________

Total Hours                        hours: _____________

Billed                                hours: _____________

Percentage to Billed Hours            _____________%

Thank you.

ACPA or someone like that should put up recomended min pumping prices for each size with basic information in order to make a 10% profit.

Should be based on some low assumptions like two salaries for each pump including the operator, 20 hour usage per week, 40 yards per hour, boom inspections, etc.

Should be ilegal for anyone to go lower than those prices since you would be pumping for below cost and having to cut corners on safety.

Pricing should be like gas, clients should call who is closest that services them well. Price should not even become an issue. Should be listed on the website.

Just ideas from someone frustrated with our industry and excuses from ignorant greedy people.

I agree, I would like to see what each pump size should be charging, and start to see people stand by prices and not let customers make it an auction. Their is always a constant argument here an there that crane companies always get what they charge and dictate how the job site should be so they can work safely and like humans.  Maybe we should start charging for all the times we need a machine to fix a site correctly that causes delays on pours, and get the correct information when asking about septic or underground utilities, and power lines.
