282 lbs cement
150 lbs fly ash
3200 lbs sand
32 meters of boom, and around 165 ' of 5" steel pipe, probably a few 4" hose and a 5 to 4 reducer at the end. All on flat ground, and at 12" slump... How do you feel about all of this sand? Anyone thoughts? |

Do you have to use the boom? might be safer go all line off back of pump, no worries about segregateing boom

ash is nothing but fines it does not lubricate so trade it for powder and still it a skinny amount to cover the surface area of all that sand. rock reduces that ratio. bet that material will fall apart way before you get to a 7 slump, do not go there. try to run the same size hose out to the tip, that last reducer at the end location will be your plug. |

(Fly) Ash doesn't lubricate? News to me. How do you figure that? |

"ash is nothing but fines it does not lubricate" -Actually, fly ash is a far better lube than cement powder. Go here and you'll see why. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_ash
It's like little ball bearings. This mix is about a 4.6 sk. sand slurry and should pump with no problem. |

sound like what i know as fill-crete. a pumpable back fill, 100% conpaction instead of bring in road crush. if so, lots of air or slick packs, then you can keep the slump down to a 8. this is a bleeder mix. sit to long, and you get a sand plug. and put your reduser in a spot where you can make a mess. and its not a bad idea to lay down another mesh on top of your grill. isn't fly-ash a good thing? the stuff ive been getting from our wash-out pit is a great primer for hoses. |

I don't think it should be a problem at all? I've been pumping with no cement through 2" hose for slab jacking. The other day I pumped 150 FT. The mix I make is 30% agg lime 30% mason sand, and 30% black dirt. Pumps great, like butter. |

Make sure it is a pumpable mix design, four days ago i had a 30 yd 2 sac sand slurry job w/ a 32 m
first truck pumped like butter, the second truck looked a little wetter hit the hopper and in five strokes separated in #1 #2 deck and stand pipe. five hours latter got it cleared, not trying to scare you but make sure its pumpable. |

Thank you for the input. It is nice to hear your testimony backing my thoughts. This job has some high profile qualities, and being on top of the game is very important to me and our company. Running this pipe right past a statue of the honorable Abraham Lincoln would be a terrible place for a problem to happen. I enjoy this site, and viewing the experience from pump operators all over the world ,to me it is priceless !! |

just came across this snowball, did you do this pour on friday? how'd it go? High profile job with that bad mix and all that line sounds like a chance to not look so great... Then again if it goes good, you turn out to be the hero!!! I don't know man, if you haven't tried it yet, I'd have a heart to heart with the GC and the redi-mix manager.... This is definetly a time when BBCP would have a test run at the batch plant a day or two before the pour, this does a lot for all involved from the operator to the GC to the laborers... Above all it gives the Plant Managers an opportunity to adjust his mix. Let us know!!! |
