Ok,I will bite.My last employer stated 40 and steady.I can say to my personal sightings. On 2 occasions in and near Boulder,Co I have seen booms run away due to high winds.Once 2 pumps on same job and winds came up.I was facing down wind, the other up wind. His boom went with the wind. The other I was on a core (9th floor) when it hit.It spun boom off wall (est 90mph+) near Jeffco airport. It took stuff off 8 and 9 into the wind.Yes high wind can overide the swing brake.Anybody that thinks it can't can talk to the people that were there.Good question.

Many and I were both working in the Rocky Mountain region "way back when"

Neither of us, and I am sure that none of the pumpers now act contrary to the common sense notion that 40mph is enough. The Boulder area, and many front range areas, have wind speeds that defy both expectation and reason, and show up at will. You will not find too many examples of people that intentionally put booms in the air - on purpose - in these conditions. It is too much like sword fighting with ZORO....... no future in it.  ;~)

I use to love the old thompsons with twin turret drives, they were like cranes no limits almost. But today is different, as said the company limits are 70kms.

The 50s and above are less.
