I have a question to all Putz operators I have boom gremlins going on again. Here it is I am pumping and all of a sudden my 4 th section the hydraulics begin to get loud ( screaming )there is no way for me to describe the sound anyway It gets louder and louder and then the section does not move and you have to try and operate off the sticks in the box and sometimes that works and sometimes it does not. Then it just starts to work again. Yesterday on the job this happens then the 3 rd section starts doing it also so I am now pumping with only the main and 2nd and then as fast as all this happens it all clears up...... So today I was on site where the other pump we have is I am watching this pump and nothing odd going on and the boom pressure is operating in its normal range 180 bar at the min 360 bar at the max. Now when I operate my pump it is also in the same range except when it starts to get loud well it climbs past 400 bar I dont know how high it is going because the gauge only goes as high as 400 bar and we are talking milli seconds and then zip nothing it hits 0 for a split second. I dont know if it is the holding valves on the cylinders causing this I thought the oil might be to thick or have dirt in it. The temp to cold but seeing the other pump today with no issues and everything on that pump is the same so...mmmm I dont know??? The worst thing about this is it is intermitant so tommorrow none of this might even happen or it might get worse. I have talked with a few people on this but thus far no answers as of yet. So if any of you can give me any input that would be great |

Super light booms with rack & pinion.....do you have the infamous carbon fiber hydralic cylinders designed to cut weight and problematic in general? |

Those cylinders were a real giant pain in the butt, no question |

This is the pump and I am taking it for service today and the picture you have shown with the power wires inchs away were not hooked up yet so dont worry. In that sub division the power was up but no power on till everything is pumped. I will post my findings as for the cylinders they are not carbon fiber. |

Hey Z I\'m pretty sure from what you are describing you have a holding valve problem. As long as your cylinder does not leak down, the cylinder is probably OK. The squeal you hear is the oil trying to overcome the pressure setting on one of the holding valves( depending which way you go). This is why it gets worse as it gets warmer, pressure drops slightly, has to work harder, oil gets hotter again, etc.etc I would replace both valves with the correct!!!! valves from Putz only! If this doesn\'t fix it theres a slight chance it is a pin or bushing but its note likely in this instance GUYS DONT TRY TO ADJUST HOLDING VALVES!!! I\'ve seen bent booms and mass destruction from operators who try to set them. This has to be done on a bench with trained techs and special equipment Terry |

I also think it could be a holding block. To find out one it is just touch it. If a block is not working correctly it will be hotter that the rest. |

Have you called Putz, or your dealer? What do they say? Have you called our two (free) mechanics? |

Hi Well after have my pump serviced the problem was a spring in the compansator valve it was so small that you could hardley see it. the fellow who does the service for out pumps is on the ball and has never failed us before. After it was repaired the pump worked great. But it amazes me that a part so tiny can cause such troubles |
