On a 16 cell circuit, why does Putz. connect the suction flanges on the accum. pump and the little gear pump?  They each have their own suction line and the hose is just a little 1/4" hose, so I don't think it's to give more flow to one of the pumps.  Just curious if anyone knows?

I can't give you that answer but on my 32 Putz my water pump is on the same flow line as the boom its self if someone is moving the boom I can't get any water.

Cp1: I do know the answer to that one. It is due to flow of oil. The auger pump is a gear pump and has a constant flow depending on shaft speed, it is always moving oil. There is a small 12L line connecting the suction side of the auger pump to the Accumulator pump suction line. The reason for this is to keep the oil moving in the suction line for the accumulator pump. The accumulator pump is a variable single direction piston pump when the accumulator reaches hydraulic pressure of 190 bar the compensator sets the swash plate angle to zero and oil flow stops, Then when the pump “S-Tube” shifts the accumulator pump goes to full stroke to make up the oil back to 190 bar. So from full charge the oil is not flowing, to the pump then at full swash plate angle max flow the oil needs to be moving rapidly. So by connecting the 2 pumps together the oil is always moving this helps the accumulator pump to get the oil without cavitating. Think about it like this It is easier to increase flow speed from a moving start instead of a dead flow start. It just keeps the flow moving. The Hydraulic pressure for accumulators may be different for various units check with your manual for the unit specific pressure for your pump. Hope this helps.
