I like too do a quick washout if moving to another lot. You NEVER know what might happen between the move. It takes a bit longer but trust me it is smarter and a hell of a lot safer----Just my 2 cents ;p http://www.pumpoperators.com/brian/ I love to pump concrete. It is in my blood. I will do whatever it takes to do the job right and safely! Almost 20yrs under my belt and still learning.

I run a 52m and I never suck a sponge until the end of the day. Just kink and go, maybe put something in the end of the hose to keep it from dripping, but thats it. The farthest we go without washing out or sugaring is maybe just a couple of miles do to the time it takes. We are also either dealing with heat, high sack mud or both. Also, with everyone using reclaimed water nowadays even with a lower sack mud you are most likely dealing with a fast setter anyways. On a cool morning not too long ago I made a twenty minute move wit a six sack mix with nothing else in it, and almost lost it .

Well I pump in very hot weather but use the same practice for winter to keep a system down pat. Before i pump the last hopper down i go back use the mixers water add enough to make it about a six inch, let it mix a little pump out what i need then suck back till the hoppers full not ever using a sponge. Kink the hose fold up and move. If you have to travel a ways, i make sure and suck all the mud back till its air, no sponge still. As long as theres a good passage, it always comes out with no chunks ever. I do this every day. I have went 20 miles in 90 degree weather like this with no problems ever. I dont even know anyone that uses a sponge to move.(Real Trucks dont have spark plugs) Can you say Cummins ?

Hi guys , if we are moving around site we empty 3rd& 4th stages out suck 2nd & 1st back kink hose fold up & move, if we have to leave site & travel to another job i allways insist my guys do a full washout & charge till your ready to leave site .Reason being its a lot safer totravel with a clean pump ie getting caught in traffic ,do a drive shaft or any other mechanical fault ,boom parties are bad enough onsite its not worth pushing your luck on the highwayWe had a incident a few years ago where one of our operators decided to travel to the next job full & unfortunaltly was involved in a accident, i dont know if your laws are the same in the usa as here but we found out the hard way no insurance cover because the pump was travelling with concrete in the system, another thought to be considered next time you decide to travel with concrete in your system will this put me over my legal weight allowance if the transport guys pull you over to weigh your pump ,more money out in overloading fines where has the profit from the last site gone ??We charge onsite offsite turn up clean leave clean cheaper & safer for all . any way guys keep up the good work & allways think about SAFTY all our loved ones want us back home every night G!DAY FROM AUSSIE

I agree with the opinion that there is no hard fastb rule for moving. every situation always has its own variables, and that is what makes our business so fun. Ive seen owner / operators do some crazy shit to get an extra job in a day and get away with it. Good on them but i still agre with when in doubt, wash it out.

Here in the GulfCoast area we do a lot of condos where there will be at least one move on site. I pour through a 5-4 reducer with a 4 pour out hose. I will pump my hopper down into the concrete truck, (to keep from having a lot of waste), then slowly suck a ball back into the hose. It mostly stops in the 3rd section. When reset up, I pump forward slowly to get the ball out. At that point, I can recirculate or pour it out. This is all based on the jobsite of course. Just pour it out :eg:
