Question for everyone?????

What would you rather have;

A 30 hr work week putting food on the table, heat in your home.....

OR....

A Boss who won't be competitive in slow times trying to keep his employees working????

I Manage AND Operate pumps... My main concern is keeping my Employees working !!!!!!

I will lower the profit margin and run things tight when it's slow, there is no other option.

When the competition drops the rates would you rather sit at home and not work or understand that some work is better than none.

Anyone who is willing to sit at home and worry about how your going to get groceries instead of staying competitive in a slow market is crazy.

The Competition doesn't care whether you make it.

Supply and Demand, more companies go out of business in future better demand, better rates, trick is to survive.

When every thing was good,  all of you loved each other, now times are tough all posts are hate messages.

good to see we are all united...

Question back at you.............. Do you know what your pumps have to make per hour to cover your operating costs??? Many guys don't and this is what gets guys in trouble.

The area you are in does not need the pumping companies running around dropping the price. SELL YOURSELF!!! You have good equipment and operators that your customers like. Dropping hourly rates more than 10% to get jobs is CRAZY!!! The rates in SW Ontario haven't risen in over 4 years, and guys want to go backwards from that. Wages have risen, fuel, insurance, Comp, and on and on. Trust your salespeople and sell yourself......

To answer Question..Yes I do almost to the penny. We have exellent operators, in my opinion the best.  BUT, Builders don't care, Ellis don doesn't care, only the small guys care.

I wish they decided who got the job but they don't. I would love to raise rates. Reality says if you want work from a stranger only way to get their attention is get a 65m...  :-) or offer competitive rates not cheap rates competitive. there is a difference. We are by far not the cheapest BUT we are competitive, our operators are our salesman, that's why we will survive..

We are going INTO the tunnel, not coming out. Everyone is/should do what they need to to get them through. Argue later. Cut the fluff and do what it takes to be here at the end of this.

And I mean it when I say

Good Luck to you all !

Sell service not price. Raise your rates, ride the storm and see what happens. You will never help build this Industry with the mentality that took it down.

Everyone compares us to cranes, but I guess they have a different mind set because they get their price, and we sit here on this board trying to explain why we are not doing the same.

Sell the equipment with that state of mind.

This is a specialty service to which we all strive to provide, yet to this day, with the investment you make to take on the liability, everyone still justs gives it away.

No business sense. Stay on the couch and not make money!!!!!!!!!!!! Try to build an Industry. To this day no one has had the balls to do so, and it should have started at the top, and I pray they are the first to go.

Well here is the thing in western Canada when things were hoping A fellow In Grand Praire would not drop his rates at all and he would let the compition bid out all the jobs and when they would not be able to cover them he would go out at full rate and do the work, nnn now that was when times were good and now I dont know what he would have done since he has now passed away from a auto accident.

I agree with granite pumping that there is no need for companies around where he is to run around and cut prices to get work. But there is one company that doing that where he is. Sending a 36 meter out for $150 an hour to get in with a company. As I posted early it's easy to sell price to someone in a office.

Where is my stickers Granite I was in the shop Friday, I didn't see any. lol... $ 150 for a 36m that's not bad considering, in the same area the is a 42Meter running around for $ 140 an hour.

Pumps we were using were on a flat rate basis.

My point seed is that this company rate is a actually more than our rate but he is going in and cutting the rate to just get in with this company than his rate will go up. But the thing is that his operators will screw up and they will be kicked off there jobsite again.
