I relooked at the reed 40 1999 pump today, the water box is filled with grout. I stuck my hand in the cylinder and felt a little scoring. My friend Carl Ericsson basically told me its to risky bc new cylinders could be about 5 grand... Any input?? It could just be cups but a lot of risk? For 16k.   Any thoughts greatly appreciated

I would make sure that the barrels are shot for sure before changing them

I didn't purchase bc of the scored cylinders etc. Just wanted to know what some of you thought about a 6000 hour machine? How many hours do cylinders typically last w a good operator and on schedule cup changes

I've seen cylinders last 13,000+ hrs. the 34 meter I run has 13,500 hours on original cylinders. cups have been changed but thats it. you can sometimes flip the cylinders around too to get more life out of them. with reed.I'm not sire apparently not too many reed pump operators on here. might be more wworth it for you to just call reed and talk to a tech there

I run a newer Reed (year old), so this is good info to know.  Mine only has 517.3 hours, but close to 4,000 yards.  What are you guys seeing for Cups?  Mine look brand new.  We had "bought a 2001 Reed B30 with about
"3500" hours but it broke the second time it was used.  Need cylinders, S tube, Cups, and a long list of other things.  We gave it back.

I run a 2012 A40HP.  We gave the B30 back.  It was worn out.  I had seen it pump before, and it pumped well.  The engine ran strong.  There were just issues with it, IE he never washed it out.  He left one of our jobs, and didnt wash it out at all.  Came back 2 weeks later with it, and goes oh shit.  After that the boss bought it.  Other than that, Its a heavy beast, over 1K heaiver than my A40.  First time we used it, we tried pumping 3000 gorut though 3" pipe and it coudnt do it.  Something was wrong.  I think had it been in good working order, we would have loved it.  I was looking forward to useing it.

if you can feel only minor scoring, remove the cylinders out of the machine, take them to a hydraulic shop, they should be able to either polish the rods, or rechrome them. the problem usually is, that when you disassemble, you probably find more problems, but rechrome or polish should cost $5K
