For the last few years, I have been trying to get the American Concrete Pumping Association to make the following changes: 1. Term Limits - For Board of Directors, 2 terms. You are out for at least 1 full year before running again for the Board. (We have Board Members that have been there forever). 2. Do away with "Directors at Large" and increase the coverage in the United States, Mexico (1), and Canada (2), which would make 13 Directors. Better representation for our Industry. 3. Manufacturers and Distributor Classified as Associate Membership only - Non-Voting members. Could I have a vote from you as a Pumper on the above ... Yes or No for the O'Brien Change.
Thank you. http://www.concretepumping.com/images/acpa.pdf Check out the PDF |

Richard just emailed me and said "If we have a positive Vote, I will try and pursue it one more time for our industry!" So lets hear what you have to say.

I think some in the industry may view this topic as an attempted hostile take over! An association for the pumpers by the pumpers. Where have I heard that before, HMMM? When is the pumpers ten commandments coming out? I vote YES |

If one looks at the acpa mission statement it is of sound mind. Members of ACPA include owners of concrete pumps, manufacturers of concrete pumps, and distributors of concrete pumps and accessories.Left out of the picture is the operator, but who are we?. 1) we are the one's making it happen daily yet have no voice.Just simple puppets doing as they say,not do. 2) Factories are a very powerfull influence of what happens in the industry. However where does the line get crossed?.In my debate with the one officer of the acpa it was made clear who ran the boat.Lobbying efforts on a state/federal level is more to there advantage. 3) Owners probably have the most to lose/gain as they have huge investments. They have alot at risk, there representation is formost.Hey factories thanks for your support but it's our industry. 4) Operators, the ones that put it all together daily but have no voice.I have yet to see a comprehensive play book to use as a daily guide.Refer to operators manual for pump is it.If change is to be done then there needs to be an allience between owners/operators to make it happen. |

How about this, when all of these details are hashed out ,a pump company must show acpa membership card or credentials before buying pumps and supplies (hoses clamps etc.) This way you will be forced to acknowledge the safety issues involved in running these things. Maybe we can get away from the attitude that a monkey can run these things. It will take a couple of years before the transformation is complete but it will be worth it.When joining present and future owners should be forced to see gruesome pictures of jobs gone bad and settlement papers between insurance companies and the families of the fallen.Maybe this would help keep any monkey from BUYING a pump. This is worse than a monkey running a pump.My two cents. |

I vote YES! I've felt that the association lost its "personal" side since it moved out of California's Bay Area, where it was born! We the operators MAKE this business, yet our input goes largely ignored. |
