In regards to a previous post on Sany's presumed acquisition in the states, here is my bit of knowledge...

Sany Sany Sany...To be or not to be...I have a direct contact with Sany, and, as some of you may already know, the tentative acquisition is no longer "tentative".  They received government approval to introduce their products into the States, and purchased a whopping 222 acres in the Atlanta, GA area.  This China-based company has been in business since the 1980's with distribution of their products reaching 44 countries.  Their advantage will be price point and the "Made in America" tag.  Not only will they offer Concrete Pumps and related pumping equipment, but also Mortar Machine, Asphalt, Grader, etc.etc.etc.  They are targeting the entire construction industry---with the financial backing of the Chinese.  Very smart.  The one positive effect this might have is creating new margins and price points for existing concrete pump manufacturers.  The strong will survive.  It's happened in the past.  Just a new cycle beginning.

Alan,

To say that was the reason no one liked it is not entirely accurate. People like what they know and resist change without reason. It is part of the human condition. It is difficult to bring a new anything into a marketplace. Resistance is typical and expected. Putzmeister is a wonderful pump. I remember when they were first introduced to the American pumpers and not too many were interested. It takes time and compromise. Never say never.

SANY: continued expansion of market share

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Munich / Changsha, 30 January 2007 – SANY Heavy Industries, the Chi-

nese construction machinery designer and producer, has further expanded

its market share in China, Hong Kong as well as in international construc-

tion projects.

SANY is currently playing a leading role in the Middle Kingdom: the com-

pany records a share of around 40% on the Chinese market for trailer-

mounted pumps and as much as 60% for truck-mounted concrete pumps.

On the other hand, market share attributable to European manufacturers

over the past ten years in China has declined steadily from 90% to 5%.

In Hong Kong, SANY has expanded its market share in the area of con-

crete conveyor plants to more than 50%. Successful expansion on the

Hong Kong market was initially marked by construction of the Hong Kong

International Finance Center where a SANY single trailer-mounted pump

conveyed C60-grade concrete to a height of 406 metres, thereby setting a

new record.

The popularity of SANY products is also increasing in terms of international

construction projects. The company has developed to become a global

player which has taken up a key position within the international competi-

tive environment. Parallel to the upward trend displayed by SANY, market

share held by American and European manufacturers is on the decline.

Meanwhile, SANY pumps and the two leading international manufacturers

Putzmeister and Schwing control the global market for machinery for han-

dling concrete. The Chinese manufacturer has already surpassed the over-

all production volumes of truck-mounted and trailer-mounted concrete

pumps produced by the other two manufacturers.

Rapid company growth by means of extensive innovative power

The SANY Heavy Industries success story started in 1994 when the com-

pany manufactured the first concrete conveyor pump in Changsha in Hu-

nan Province. This machine was the first open-system trailer-mounted

pump to be redesigned entirely in China. In March 2001, SANY success-

fully designed China’s longest crane boom extending to 48 metres. This

was quickly followed by products such as long booms, high-pressure

pumps and truck-mounted concrete pumps being launched large-scale onto

the market. In September 2003, a truck-mounted concrete pump left the

SANY plant featuring the world’s longest boom to date (56 metres in

length). In 2004, the construction machinery expert designed the world’s

first concrete conveyor pump featuring distribution at three different levels

while 2006 saw yet another truck-mounted concrete pump featuring an

even longer boom (66 metres) – the longest in the world and which has

meanwhile been fitted. This record pump is one of the highlights of the

SANY stand at the Bauma 2007.

At the same time, SANY has also implemented innovative technologies

including fully-hydraulic control of pump conveyor systems, diesel motor

speed and computer in a closed circuit as well as fully-automatic height

conversion for concrete conveyor pumps. All in all, SANY Heavy Industries

has launched 25 product ranges with 120 different products within a period

of 11 years and now owns more than 300 patents.
