I went to schwing today in Carrolton. I had to get some parts. I love going there, im like a kid in a candy store. And the guys are great!!!But i saw a 28M that was there and i was looking around, being nosey. I opend the water box and it was completley full of hyd oil!!!! i didnt even know that was possible. I know if there is some hyd oil in your water that you need to repack your material cylinders. Could that be because the cylinders were never re-packed? |

if it has set a while the oil will rise to the top. so there may be water there but it should not apear as you found it. |

The winter months you would be well advised to run hyd\' oil in your water box. It lubricates better than water, if you have good cups you can leave it in there for a long time, it will not freeze. If your shaft seals are so-so the liquid in the water box may, if left during a cool down period, seep past the seals. In Texas summer season you need the cooling water, not so right now. |

Hi John Good observation.Keep in mind that there are a couple reasons why that could be. As Bob mentione Film on surface of water.Which could indicate sealing rings and bushings bad.Diff cyliders are not cheap. lubrication for new mud cups. Nobody really cared,I have pumped in your area.

A lot of the trailer pumps in my area have switched to the water soluable oil in water-box. I thought of adding a little to my booms waterbox for the luberication it would add. it runs about $50 per 5 gls. I was told on trailer (ball valve) to use about 20 ounces and the rest water. Any-body tried? Its alot cheaper that hyd.oil. |

This got me thinking, Can you just fill your water box with oil (new or used) and leave it there for say days? |

This pump was out of houston i belive, it had straight hyd oil in the box, The pump was for sale, so it wasnt in there for pumping reasons. It just had such a bad leak that it filled up the whole water box in the time it had been sitting there. But i am glad i brought this up becuause i have often wondered about putting some sort of lubricant in my water box. I will try some hyd oil tommorrow. I do not know, but i have heard that putz have an oiler in the mud cup maybe???? |

The putz I ran had little ports that squirted oil onto the ram itself (at least that\'s what someone told me). What about polluting the environment when you dump the water at the end of the day? |

I use used hyd oil in the water box all the time, I change it about every 50 hours of pumping. When it get about 3/8 of an inch of portand in the bottom of the water box. It can also give you a tell tell sign when you need to change your cups when the portland comes in a lot sooner. |

I use 1 quart of oil with the water in my wash box, if I am not going to dump it every day. That is what the manufacture said to do. I do not know if it helps or not but it does suspended the contaminants in the oil. Olin recommends using straight vegetable oil in their trailer pump wash boxes. I like this as it does lubricate, it is free (I use used vegetable oil), you do not have to change it everyday and if you dump it on the ground it probable will only be a misdemeanor not a felony. Down side is, it is harder than concrete to get off the outside of the water box. On hot days it does smell like you are making french fries not pumping concrete. |
