Schwing vs everyone else...

We've been in business for 64 years. We just recently bought a Mack Granite 39m Schwing to be delivered in a few weeks. The time comes when you have to quit sending money out the door and keep it in house.

We plan on having this pump primarily as an in house concrete pump. I am friends with a lot of the local contractors in town and maintain great relationships with those guys. Many say they would like to use me and thats great. Ill mostly rent out to residential contractors. Were 99% commercial so theres no conflict of interests. There will be a few commercial guys but that doesn't matter.

I have two great operators, all who are great mechanics, good operators and keep clean trucks who are wanting to come on board. One is unemployed (had health issues now cleared up) and another is from out of state who I still remain close with. My question is this. Our first is a Schwing. The decision was made to go this route because thats what we know in this area. I know when you have one pump, you almost need two. So im personally leaning heavily towards a Putz 38z if we eventually decide to go that route. Granted I'm putting the cart in front of the horse at this point but thats what weekends are for. I have a buddy on the east coast that manages, I think he said 100 pumps. He told me that he loves both Schwing and Putz. He did mention that there has been a valving issue with the Putz newer model. This had me concerned a little but I hear Putz has already worked through this issue. Whats everyone experience with Putz and Schwing's?

....

Schwing and Putz are just the best there is. Which one is better?? That will always be a matter of taste I think. But if it was my company I would try to stick to one brand. Specialy when you have so few pumps. Its MUCH more pratical when you think about spare parts, service, repairs..

If the price is the same why go through the trouble of having 2 different brands while you can have almost identical machines?

Ive thought about that too. Putz is a better deal. You get the same machine but with a great discount I would call it. The reason why I would go with Putz the second time is to compare which machine is better. But I would like to know what people of this site had to say, maybe my thinking is flawed.

i have only ran schwing and putz, I personally think the putz is a smoother pump at high volume and the z boom is better in tight spots. but I like the booms better on the schwing they have a higher load rating, and I think they operate smoother. and I believe the schwings are a little more operator friendly and require less maintenance

when it comes to trailer units we have reed and ta pump. but as they wear out my putz is the better machine and has held its value well. as for schwing yea i would  have one because i like how the rock valve breaks down for repair.

Hi , I belive  you have to stay with the  Schwing.

My experience tells me , on brand is much more efficient ,

Same wear parts , electrics, switchs hydraulics  ect . So easy to keep parts repairs all one type.

In the long run you will be easy maintan your growing fleet. Also you get to know the machines .

Trouble shooting , understanding hydraulic and electric diagrams .

You don't want to confuse your self with different machines its a nightmare ....

Any way good luck  take care .

I wasn't talking about running the machine, I'm talking about durability, reliability, and maintaining the machine.

I started with a 28 meter Schwing. Had good luck. If its not broke, dont fix it. Have 6 now. Parts are the same for most cases.

in fact.....either Schwing and Putz are now owned by chinese...dont choose your pump only by "brand"...but rather by the parts and service you gonna have with.....dont know much about everdyme though they seem very nice.....korean pump like concord/Alliance proved to be very reliable through the years....   it worth to take a look....

A shout out for Alliance. I've run schwing and putz. But Alliance has been my favorite. Great pumps and great service.

What is good about a Rock valve is the grease bushings are not under concrete grout pressure. On an S tube system the tube has a joint that rotates and also has concrete pressure through it. There for it leaks grout into the bushing. Schwing or MR Schwing figured this out and created the Rock valve. Just my opinion..

I agree that the rock valve from schwing is great. Maybe the best there is. But the rock vale system CIFA uses on its combi pumps is just ridiculously bad.. Huge buildups in the rock. And often seperation in the rockvalve when the concrete is not perfect. I don't understand they don't do something about this..

Don't want to sound like a broken record, I know they have been long discontinued...and unfortunately time machines aren't in mass production at the moment...

AND I certainly don't mean to deflate your tyres or come across as condescending, but truth be told, in many opinions the C valve from Putzmeister was and still is the best ever valve design for mobile truck mounted concrete pumps.

By introducing the S valve on their pumps all Putzmeister done was equalise them with the competition. Great move to losing their worldwide market share.

Their solution to get back this market share? "Ergonic" a system nobody cares about or has a clue about outside Germany.

Kudos for schwing with maintaining their heritage with their Rock valve.

Game ON!

In time, after the great Karl Schlect passes on, when all the fancy speeches, private jets and Chinese wining and dining has ended, you'll see Wengen move in strategically and dismantle Putzmeister and anchor his Sany brand in the heart of europe the same way Komatsu Moved in on the great Hanomag.

I really like the idea of the rock valve though i've only ever operated a s tube piston pump. I was curious if it was true that you cant dry cycle a rock valve like you can with a s tube because it damages the wear (mirror?) plate ? Just curious. I've also read but am not sure if it is true that some schwing pumps material cylinders aren't hard chromed and are just polished metal, is this true? Sounds crazy to me lol.

you are correct             but there are certain aftermarket parts that change that               As in a kidney seal made from a more durable polymer            and material cans and jugs that are more like a putz

being you will only have a few , I would stick with one brand close in age , that way hopefully you can keep parts inventory down. I've been running pumps a long time and managing and running businesses , and I can tell you , both Schwing and Putz are great pumps, but if I was going into business with two pumps (as I've done) , I'd start with Putz , the S-tube is a better valve for pumping harsher mixes atleast in my area. They served us very well and they are still pumping strong 11 years later.
