May I ask without making the "PUMP GODS" mad? What is that wrapped around your boom pipe? |

MUDDY, that would be insulation. For us fellows that know that it doesn't get 'COLD' until the mercury falls out the bottom of the thermometer.
It's main purpose is to keep the wind (and wind chill) off the pipe. it is'nt much insulation - maybe R4, but it sure helps. When you are pumping, it doesn't make much difference (at mildy cold temps), but if you stop for 20 minutes or so and the pipe drains, the grout lining the pipe will freeze, and it will come out ahead of the mud like a 7-11 Slurpee and plug in an elbow, or for sure, the reducer. |

Muddy, no doubt you have experienced a short burst of freezing temperatures, but until you know what it's like to drive on 'square tires' for 2 miles until they warm up, you haven't lived. LOL |

You are probably right. I will leave all that for you snow birds. I like cold weather but I don't like freakin' freezin' weather. LOL |

The only good thing about -30 is that a boom party is somewhat manageable, let it freeze solid, when it thaws partially, you can push the slug out with a pressure washer. |
