Ed - I see in Picture 5 you have that new remote control called SOFT TOUCH.? The operater of these controls looks very excited to be in control of this pump job she is taking part in.

Question, Is it a bad idea to hook steel directly to the boom?

Comment: Putting that 90 on the tip 90 to pull a hard right! Never seen it and plan to put it in the old box of tricks! GREAT IDEA!

Thanks

That is my question. I've always been told to put a hose between the boom and the first steel. Not bashing just wondering. by the way nice pics.

Seed, Yes it is a bad idea to attach steel pipe directly to the boom! (Sorry ed )

Think what's gonna happen when you disconnect from the pipe? No one knows what's gonna happen, that boom could fly several feet in any direction!!! Besides that, think of how much stress that boom is put through being tied down like that? Remember how far the tip drops once the boom is loaded? Well I'm guessing that this pump and system was primed all at once, which means the tip would have dropped 3 or 4 feet on a boom that size. But since it was attached to system and anchored down, you cant tell if the boom is over loaded or being burried in the deck! The only way to tell is by guessing how far the tip section is bending.

Would you stuff your tip elbow in the ground and then pressure it down even more and then turn the pump on and let it bounce around while it's burried in the dirt? I did'nt think so. I cant think of anything that would put more stress on a boom except using the tip section to shake all that pipe out when they were done!

Manufacturers operating manuals and the ACPA tell us NOT to do this. Find a double end five inch wire bound hose and let your boom swing and dance the way it is supposed to.

;~)

I wondered how long it was going to take for one of you to comment about that - or the no pins in the clamps or the bent/loose handle.

Good call !!

Sorry for the delay, its super hero day and the kids finally went to bed so I just now took off the tights and hung up the cape.

I did notice the bent and loose clamp handle, but I did'nt want to nit pick. My guess is that the handle is bent and loose from having to change that tip gasket every day because of all the StReSs put on the tip?

I do apologize ed I know things are done differently from here to there so please dont be offended. You have a really nice machine and I'd hate to see you break it or hurt yourself. Hooking directly into pipe really is hard on them, from stem to stern.

With a pump this pretty, I would'nt let my boom get that close to anything especially the ground. Nice pump ed ! Everdigm, are'nt they also Hanwoo?

we first pump through the boom and then connect the pipes. Then we lift the boom a little bit (so it can bounce a little) and we put 2 steel bars behind the clamps. So they can't move backwards.

ed I'd like to see some more pics of your pump. Could you post some more pics of the pump kit, and hopper etc.? Maybe get some pics while unfolding the boom to show the boom configuration?

i see you must of had a plug at sometime, with all that mud at the end of your tip

Marko, I think the mud on th deck is from pre loading the boom before attaching the system?
