So i started my own masonry company and like all thing it is slow starting out. I did a foundation for a guy where i did the footing and the block. I couldn't get the truck to the footing ao i checked in to getting a pump and found out that the closest pump came out of tennesse, I'm in western Kentucky. I had the thought that someone could make some money with a pump around here. I got a pump and have had it for about a mounth now. I have only pumped three time. I have made fliers, talked to the ready mix plants, and just about every contractor around. So how can i get more business?? I have a pea gravel pump trailer pump. also does have or know where i can get some mix designs for different psi's for small rock. All help and advice is greatfull. Thanks

Go gotta sell them on the concept of the 'whole enchilda'.

Not only does pumping make the placement go faster and with less effort.  (wheelbarrowing takes it's toll on the body, as does raking out the piles)

Generally much less man-hours are rquired for the job, not to say that you can go short-handed, there is a point of diminishing returns.

But also, since it is placed at a more consistant rate, the finishing moves along at a steady rate too.  It affects the production on the entire job AND it results in a better finished product.

It's the same reason that powertools are used now.  A skill saw won't run cheaper than a hand saw, but the man behind it is more efficient.  Save the manual labout for jobs not easily mechanized, like lifting and carrying, measuring and nailing.  Hell even a hammer and scredriver have been relpaced by powertools.

A concrete pump is a powertool for moving concrete.  You don't see a dosen guys kneeling on a floor doing the finishwork by hand, do you?  No, just 1 or 2 to get the edges and aroud pipes and other obstructions that the machines can't get to.

A mayco breako has a low rock per yard a round 900 lbs per yard  and not one bit more, you are in a good area cause Premier Concrete P umping pulled all of there pumps out a year or so ago, the only problen I see with your new business, is that you are in a masonry  business and other block company's want use you cause they are affraid of you stealling their work,so if I were you I would set it up secperate, I'm  in the northern middle Tenn area, I started with a C-30 but got rid of it in 5 months of starting, I own a 5/45 Olin and use only 2 1/2 inch hose plus I have a 32 meter PUTZ, my best advice is if you are sticking to the C-30 and 2 inch hose would be just pump Grout one of my batch plant's will sell it for 75 per yard Federal Materials down in your local is pretty costly over 100 per yard but a 3-30 will make a old man out of you fast, priming is very important send me and e-mail and we can chat more.

PS raise your prices if you are under 100.00 per hour and under 2.50 per yard you are to cheap and don't drop em.

mymymy,what have we here?

So i started my own masonry company and like all thing it is slow starting out

Welcome to the club

I had the thought that someone could make some money with a pump around here

If one does it right

So how can i get more business??

Sell baby sell.If i'm understanding correctly you do block work "and" pump concrete.Treat the pump as a seperate entity.I would market the little subs for housing,ie remodelers for one.Look for the smaller flatwork companies that do stamped and residential work.Deveolpe a relationship with the redi mix companies (being humble helps here) but show your confidence. It's allot of word of mouth and it all comes together.

I'm using 2 inch hose, i came with the pump but if i can get more business i will upgrade to 2 1/2" but i need to have more work before i do that.

90% of the stuff I do is 2" (3/8th mix).I shouldn't say but oh well. The people I use have a tk50 and local $115 + 1 hr travel and $3.00 a yard.Travel if I get one of those way out jobs. They come with ""2"" men and pretty much run the show, but they are very good.It was mentioned the job goes smoother, you can bet your spare reducer it does.

And i am using a mayco c30hnd, not a real fast pump but runs good. I have low prices but i need ideas on how to get people to use the pump also

What's wrong with the mayco? When I was in the Jacksonville area that pump was my biggest compitition, well that and 50 men and 5 gal buckets. If you can get 20 yards per hour your in fat city.

Pay attention to the last 2 posts,ed hit it on the head there.

Now my question, should I buy 3" or 4" heels tomorrow?

Many since you write  in pink I think that 3 inch heels should be tall enough we wouldn't want you to get a nose bleed what color do you want maybe a lavender.
