System Pours with a Putz 20 Cell Pump Kit

Hey All,

I thought i would pass on something I learned the other day. We did a system pour on a church here in Dallas(second deck). I was a little concerned because I had not run this pump on a system pour before. So you guys who run putz may want to try this procedure on priming the system 250 feet or less.

A. I filled the hopper 1/4 full of fresh water, with no slick pack.

B. I filled the prime a port full of fresh water as well.

C. I ran 1 yard of grout at about a 6 inch slump and mixed with small amount of water. I made first hard rock truck about a 7 inch slump. I also had him run the mixer about 500 revolutions to ensure it was properly mixed and the slump wuld not change 2 yards into the truck.

D. I cycled the pump in forward at just above 3 on the volume control to give it enough ummmph to move through the system.

Here is what happened. The water in the prime a port moved ahead of the grout slicking the pipe, there was very little grout in contct with the water other then what was coating the sides of the pipe (so no sand pack off). Their is a pocket of air that blows between the grout and the water. Also about halfway through the yard of grout I started adding the concrete and mixing the grout togethor with it . By the end of the yard of grout I am through smoothly all 250 foot of system plus boom and we dropped the volume down just under 3 to reduce hose surge. This technique worked perfectly --no pack off or time consuming plugs, make sure to keep concrete moving if you have to wait on mixeres. Hope this helps you 20 cell putz guys.

Gotta love the Z

your are simply a genious the slick pac can skrew you up if you stop mid stream like if the regular mix does not blend with the grout, its all timing right.

Hi Guy's: A little trick I learned:stuff a wad of LIGHTLY wadded newspaper in between your 1st and second hose ,just enough so air can go by but not a solid. It will hold up your slurry just enough so that it coats the entire hose.not just the bottom. It really works!

What does the .20 cell have to do with anything? It slows down just like any other pump. With a yard of grout, you probably won't have any problems anyway.

JdZA,

It doesn't really have anything to do with it. Its more a description of the equipment I used when performing this pour. The system will work for any Putz boom pump. It was just the first time I had hooked up the 11inch rams to a 4 " system job. New experience is all. You are correct they bog down just like any other pump. But I think they woudl probably blow a hose or clamp off before thta happened. LOL

I have pumped system jobs (over 200 feet of 4 inch hose, no pipe except for what‘s on the boom) with a roll and fold on the first floor of a building. The pump is a 1991 and has no remote box just the hardwire. I got the jib in there barely. Got to make sure you got the right slump going in the hopper so you get what you want on the end of the delivery line. (one of our z's was in the shop that day)
