Dear Members –

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Putzmeister America's former president Terry Smith.

Terry L. Smith, 66, of Keego Harbor, passed away September 12, 2008. He was born in

Lansing, MI on December 15, 1941. He was the son of the late Don and Carlene Smith.

Mr. Smith was an officer in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a

graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, Class of 1959 and received his B.S. degree in

Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1964.

A 35-year career in the diesel engine industry and manufacturing of construction equipment

took him through many positions where he experienced extensive travel and established

valued relationships. Mr. Smith started at Detroit Diesel, a division of GM, as a sales

engineer after his service in the U.S. Army. He then moved to the Ford Motor Company as

the Industrial Engine Director of Sales, Western Division. His career also included Onan

Corporation - Director of Engineering; MWM Murphy Diesel North America – President;

Simon Aerials Construction Machinery – President; Simon Access North America –

President; and Putzmeister America Inc. – President.

Having spent some 10 years in Racine, Wisconsin with Putzmeister America, Mr. Smith

retired in 2000 and remained on their Board of Directors. Upon his retirement he pursued

hobbies, which included boating and golfing. His boat Cass Lake II could be seen on Lake

Michigan and in Fort Myers, Florida. In passing we hope you hit them long and straight –

Bon Voyage.

He will be missed by his family, friends and business associates worldwide. In addition to

his wife Christine, he is survived by his two daughters – Cathy Smith of Naples, Florida and

Lori Smith of Denver, Colorado and their mother Gail. He is also survived by his twin

brother Jerry (Janet) of West Bloomfield, Michigan and Fort Myers, Florida.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Pixley Funeral

Home, Godhardt-Tomlinson Chapel-Keego Harbor. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-8 p.m.

Thursday, 3-8 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society.

Please join me in keeping the Smith family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Regards,

Christi Collins
