The ACPA will hold an Operator Safety Seminar this Saturday, March 13,
2010 at Conco Pumping, 18644 72nd Avenue South, Kent, WA. All concrete
pump operators are encouraged to attend. Attendance at the seminar will
fulfill the four-hours of documented ACPA safety training which is now a
requirement for ACPA certification and recertification.

The seminar will begin at 8:00 a.m. and should conclude sometime between
11:30 am – 12:00 pm. Lunch is provided with ACPA Operator Certification
testing immediately following. Any operator whose company is no longer a
member of ACPA, but would like to attend and either certify or renew
his/her certification may do so at the ACPA member rate providing they
pre-pay for the certification exam.

Holding a safety seminar at a member’s place of business is not an
uncommon practice and has been done successfully many times in the past.
Implementation of the new safety training requirement has increased the
need for operator seminars and this enables us to keep our costs to a
minimum while affording more opportunities to present the safety
training program. Just last week-end we held a safety seminar at a
member’s business out on Long Island, NY and it was well-attended by
operators from all over New York City area with one operator even
driving in four hours from Pennsylvania.

Operators should remember, this is about SAFETY. This is not a forum to
discuss labor disputes, pumping prices, or any other non-related issues.
When we contacted Tim Henson of Ralph’s Concrete Pumping to see if he
would have an issue sending his operators to a competitor’s business his
reply was that since it was about safety, it was not a problem. This is
exactly the attitude we need when seeking to increase safety awareness
on the job and keep our operators and all our co-workers from harm.
I hope all operators will be able to set aside their differences and
come together as professionals seeking to improve the quality of the
industry they have chosen to serve.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me
direct.

Christi Collins
