I'll bet navigating the city streets is entertaining. Do they hook you up with an Eco-Pan to washout in, or do you gotta travel to washout? Thanks for sharing the pictures. |

Our Eco-pan is a box made out of plywood 16" high by 5' by 5'. Lol We leave it there for the next day, and then brake it apart and the boys put it inside a container ( just for concrete). We usually allways have a 10 yard container. |

That's good the contractor has a plan for that. I don't really like traveling out of downtown to washout...you never know what the traffic's going to be like. ...and where I'm from, it's probably nothing compared to New York traffic. |

New york city traffic is the end of the world!!!!!! I dont care how much anybody would pay me, but i would never drive down the city to go wash out at some other place besides the job site. But just for the record, that idea of the plywood box, it was all mine and my boss. The GC just makes sure the street is nice and clen. Fines here for that kind of stuff start at $10,000.00 I never tought the felling of sitting in traffic and shitting your pants because you had to engage PTO and put it in reverse, would be a great felling, besides that you would be counting every second until you would hear that S-tube rotate.... and if u didnt hear it damm man then i would shit my pants... Deff not me !!! |

He has the best relationship with his troops of any company I know. AND He is right about the two ended hose. He knows that as an owner, he is responsible for his employees health and safety. All in all... pretty good boss. ;~) |

You know what i had it with you guys. None of you could realize the boom couldnt make it to the last pier to your right, and that i had to connect another hose after that. But thats fine i understand all about your safety. Now i have to be honest here, double 90's, speed reducers, and other bullshit shouldnt be use, now what about double ended hoses. What's the danger of that hose, you going to swing it around and knock somebody on their head. well if thats the case, you shouldnt even be pumping concrete. I never move my boom to anywhere without having the best view of what i'm doing. And when i'm waiting for mud that hose is allways barried on the concrete. I even painted red so the guys could see it bettter i guess that didnt make it a diference at all. I'm sorry i had to let it out. It was the last time also i'm posting pictures here. I posted pictures before and you guys helped become more safe, i never said anything to anybody or took things the wrong way. i allways listen to the problem and the next day i was working on it. but eith this sittuation i dont get it . |

Tiago40m, there are other ways to do that job, by removing the double ended hose will make you even more safer, we are only trying to help, is your remote 2 speed? |

Everybody sees what they want to see. As long as you post pictures the experts will hound you. I would love to see these experts operate a pump in NYC like we have. It aint like pumping a house slab in a corn field or a wheat field. Keep posting pictures it makes me homesick. |

I am a very safety conscious person and in all my years of pumping(almost 21) I have never had a double ended hose have a problem, now with me saying that doesn't mean I dont see the danger but you hit a guy with the force of the hose whipping from a plug or air its doing damage naturally the hose is hard as hell because of the concrete in it so how much more damage is the double ended going todo, one guys dying with brain damage whats the other going to do,same deal hes dead,I dont think the problem is in the double ended hose as much as it is the hose itself so unless they outlaw hoses in general lets all tell the truth end hoses are the problem not just double ended, all these guys talking about double ended ,hoses but I bet there the first ones to throw on a reduction hose because the manufacturer says its ok,its a sore subject one that i'm sure is going to go on,I say be fair throw out your reduction hoses and i'll throw my double ended hoses out,if not your no better than the ones using double ended hoses,I dont know the answer to the problem,I do know us fighting amongst ourselves and running people like tiago from the site isn't it,come up with the answer and I'm all for it we need to work together,STRENGTH IN NUMBERS |

Pudg, I think that the logic for the reduction hose was to get rid of the velocity reducers and still slow down the concrete so that an op’ could pump ICF walls with out blowing them to bits. I must say that they are not the answer all; they do a nice job on slow ICF work and other low ‘yph’ jobs. I have seen hose whip accidents with and without double ended hoses… there is a huge difference in the destructive power between the two. HUGE! I am one of the people that think that any hose hanging off of the end of a boom that is not an anti-whip hose is an accident waiting to happen. That is why I like my padded pipe program. On a personal note; I think that there is much to what you have to say, as always.
I promised Todd that I would always "stick with the rules" and I will. But once an issue is pointed out I am not going to keep hammering the point. I think that once someone is informed then they are going to do whatever it is that they are going to do. I can only hope that it is the right thing, not the convenient thing. |

In 2001 (prior to concretepumping.com) I was working for a pump company who enforced you to use a double ended hose. alot of us would have a single ended we made on jobsites with a chop saw hidden in our hose boxes that we would throw on the pump at the job. The reason they claimed they wanted double ends was they were afraid someone would cut their hand or something on the wire on the cut end of the hose. I was doing a big slab one day and the owner was there so I had my double end hanging. the hose man was asking me to boom right and as we were moving the guys behind him told him they needed more mud. So he turned as I was still moving and pushed the hose that way. When he let lose of the hose it swung to the direction of the boom and the hose mans boot snagged on some rebar under the concrete and he went down onto his hands and the hose came back and whipped him in the face. It broke his jaw in 3 places and he was out of work for about a month. As an operator There was nothing I could do about this except say Im sorry. From that point on I was what some of you call a rulebreaker and always had a single end on the pump. I know if it was on there when it hit the guy it may of bruised him thats it. The owner of my company paid all the medical bills and a healthy lump sum to stay out of court. And he still held on to his double end policy because he was afraid of someone getting a scratch. IT'S SAFER THATS WHY WE FIGHT FOR IT! Anything we can do to get through the day safely I belive we need to do it. Accidents are going to happen with or with out double ends but like Bob said far less dammage with a single. Love the site but the bickkering needs to stop. Can't we all just get along. |

Mr. Art, the reason people like me and Tiago have a New York City attitude is every day you have to be on your best game. Ill bet 99% of the operators on this website could not pump concrete there. Most would refuse the job simply because of inexperience. Its by far the hardest place to do our job in this country. Have you ever seen those rubber socks that velcro onto a tip hose? Im wondering if that would suffice all the double ended hose debate. If Tiago will send me his address, ill send him one for free. I want him to keep posting pictures on here. Tiago buy the way great shot of the Chrysler building. Everybody play safe Love Peace and Chicken Grease |
