I just woke up from my nap , just came of a night pour. Just wondering any one know the first 5 or 10 companies in the US to by boom pumps. This is not a bashing session or a whos better deal ,just curious if any body has any idea what year some of the players got into the Game.

Hi Brian

A couple of names that are way back for me are

1) Les ainsworth (Pumpco,formerly ConcretePumping,Inc)

2) Dick O'Brain  (O'Brian concrete pumping)

3) There was another that bought 2 booms (old thompsons) before the prievious 2.

That's here in the Denver area,#1 and #2 still over all these years active in this industry.

My Best

well i know for a fact that ron was celebrated as a pioneer in the industry 3 years ago at the WOC. CF&T/Associated were also one of the first in the bay area for sure. Merli in Los Angeles also. When i worked for Interstate for a month ( i don't reccomend that by the way) they showed me all of these safety videos from the eighties featuring these companies. whether they were first in the us i don't know, but they were in cali. now that i think of it ralph's in seattle has been around for awhile.

I heard that Harvey Hoyer and Bob Weatherton were one of the first guys to get a pump in the USA. Dont know if they were first or not. I also heard that Cross was one of the first.

In the NW, Crane-Reynolds and C&N were some of the early pioneers up here. Gene Clark (the "C" in C&N) had built a rigid-boom with a line-pump before his C&N days. I worked for his son, Joe Clark for 5 years. The old man still has the old C&N company truck sitt'n at his house (1975 ford f-150). He's got a few old relics sitt'n around aswell. We've joked around about sarting a pump-museum (lol). He has a 2001 with serial number 2001-003 suposedly the 3rd of its kind!

well atleast for northen i can tell you cf&T and flowcrete were probably the first. cf&T used to pour for conco and bcp before they got pumps. Associated was after conco and bcp. CF&T was mid 60's they had the first 42m in the bay. and first 52m in the U.S. Conco had #2 then CF&T got their second about a month after conco #3

Please post the following regarding the first companies who ran booms in the US.

I did some research.  The first boom trucks in the US were manufactured by Thomsen and were owned by the Bennett Bros.  Mark Layton, the original owner of LA Concrete Pumping also ran Thomsen booms very early, about the same time.  The first Schwing booms were operated by Hoffman Construction in Portland OR.

 Regards,
