How do you place nearly 4,200 cubic yards of concrete for an apartment tower named after the 12th Man? You bring in the “Legion of Boom” rig from Brundage-Bone Concrete Pumping.

Brundage-Bone used the Legion of Boom, which is Putzmeister 47Z concrete pump mounted on a Mack truck chassis, to place the concrete for Tower 12’s mat foundation. Assisting were another 47Z and a 63Z.

PCL Construction Services reports there were no injuries or incidents during last month’s pour that involved 60 workers in two shifts over 15 hours. The operation required 50 concrete trucks fed from three concrete batch plants.

Cadman was the concrete supplier.

The mat was fortified with 400 tons of rebar.

PCL is building the 34-story tower for Continental Properties at Second and Virginia in Belltown. It will have 314 units and 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail when it opens in May 2017.

Weber Thompson is the design architect, and MulvannyG2 Architects is the architect of record.

Tower 12 was named in honor of the 12th Man, a symbol of civic pride around Seattle that transcends football.
