I am not trying to be to negative but can anybody tell me why does this guy always run a 4 inch hose ? I would just run a 5 inch ,he must be an inexperienced pumper.

I will probably get banned or introuble for saying this or my post will be deleted.

I guess since I am being negative I am tired of seeing pictures of that ugly black and red pump,  gosh what an awful color scheme, is anyone with me on this ?. I guess I could say somthing positive , even though I had a bad day. at least it looks like he works quite a bit, must be nice we are slow here. what company is that and where are they?

looks like he is using a double ended hose too. thats a big no no , look at this funny crap

1. He runs a 4" hose because that is what his customers expect

Sorry OE 3, looks like you were the dog who got kicked on this one. I am sure Mudman did not mean it. Either that or he is going crazy because your pump looks so nice.

 In this business the operator must be PROUD of his truck and his duty of being a concrete pump operator.I run a 4 inch hose because my boss/owner tells me to do it.I am PROUD of what I do and will definitly miss this business if I ever do "retire".We as operators ALWAYS look out for the other man whether they are driving a pump,or digging a hole.I guess we all know,if you mess with one of us,you mess with the entire herd..............

Mudman; Just because somebody does something different than you doesn't mean he's wrong or inexperienced! I've been an active pump operator for more than 35 years,and I run a 4" hose ALL the time; My hosemen like it, my customers like it, and in billable hours,my company likes it! Do we plug up more,the answer is yes,but for an experienced operator its no big deal! Ive probably plugged in the reducer 3 times this year! Aint no big thing!! As for the way OE3 keeps his truck,I do too! I believe it says alot about the way an operator does his job! My old man used to say" If you show up on a job with a nice looking truck,and it breaks something,the customer says" Well things happen". Show up with a trashed truck and it breaks ,the same customer wants to know why send me a POS truck! Maybe they really dont care about my business! Or maybe the operator just doesnt care!

I guess I looked at it quick , maybe it is a single end hose. I still dont understand why a 4 inch hose all the time . I guess you guys know this pumper or somthing but he has a lot to learn that 4 inch s going to get him into trouble one day.

Bob: what do you mean ? try to keep up berkeley pumping ? is that their slogan ? and how do you know that pump is 5 years old ? its not that clean iv seen cleaner.

   Simple explanation,less splatter,less manpower to move hose,what's not to like.

I think that you would be totally shocked of you knew how many yards of concrete are pumped daily, through boom pumps, and out of 3 1/2" hose. 

I personally owned and operated a boom pump for 3 years, without ever once using a 5" hose on the tip. 

i just moved to texas and 5" is all they use out here. i tell ya, it's nice never having to worry about a plug up. and oe3, why have the new guy apprentice on a new pump he'll never operate? you know he'll end up on the brown 32.

 John,I think the reason 3 trains that man on his truck is to show the trainee how it should be done,how to maintain a truck is probably 60% of our job,38% is priming,power lines,etiquette on the job.2% of the training is the actual operating of the boom.Watching an experienced operator move about his rig is probably the best way to teach someone how to operate a rig in the proper manner.In other words 3 would like his trainee to mimic his moves throughout the entire day,from pre-trip inspection to filling out his time card.
