On my way home this afternoon I first heard a gear spin out in 8th, like it was jumping out but it was still in. Then again and it got worst. Not all upper gears spin out but are still in. I do have the lower ones (in low range). Its all the upper shift ones? Any ideas? Also where can i get a new or good used 02 Mack trani? I'm located in MN.

sorry about your problems. I hope someone can help you. One thing i thought was funny is you used the words good and Mack together.

seems to be a common thing, loosing Hi-side; best and fastest way is to get a reman transmission, your Mack dealer can hook you up, and just swap transmission; not exaclty cheap but gets you on the road; depending on age of truck I always replace the clutch and rear main seal,

I found out its the synchronizer box on the back of the transmission. It is probably easier to replace the whole trani. I'm looking for one. Its a T2090L 9 speed.

REPAIRS AT A REPUTABLE FACILITY SHOULD BE 6-8 THOUSAND SO PRICE A NEW ONE I BELIEVE THERE ABOUT 13,000 MAYBE MORE ECONOMICAL TO FIX.

Our pump is at mack dealer as we speak. I suggested to dealer to put a reman T2090 in it along with a new clutch to save down time and call it done. One day to get reman trans the clucth they have in stock . 12 to 14 hrs in labor and I could have had it back pumping today. My boss gets involved and tells them to tear the trans down and see what it needs. Now it might be done next wednesday. Now they have to rent a pump to cover more pours. Well the bet is on between me and the boss . My plan or his.

I had it towed to a truck shop. There's a small possibility its a shift fork. The mechanic said because it happened so quickly it could be a shift malfunction. I could have smoked the gears however. They rebuild them there for 2750. R and R is another 1200. A clutch would be another 900 plus labor. I'm hoping for the shift fork fix..

it is the clutch packs in the back of the trans you need a fork, clutch basket and clutches and there are tools to hold the 3 gears in while you put the back cover on about $1100 DOLLERS. no new tranny clutch and all that wasted money we do them in about 4 hrs it is common. to stop this from happening put your trans in high reverse nudge the clutch out until you feel it pull a lil then throw it in pump gear and flip your pto switch and go to work.

I couldn't have said it better aaron, and the tip on preloading the hi-range helps prevent the pins of the clutch pack from getting bent and broken.

Interesting aaron, the shop didn't get to look at it yet till in the morning. The 1100. was that for the tool or the work? I don't know if they have the tool I know Mack said they did, this shop said something about removing the trani and standing it on its nose. But rear clutches don't really qualify as a rebuild so I'm hoping for a good story. They said they'd give me the whole story tomorrow..

Well, i'm rollin again! yes it was the rear clutch, also some really bad gears that were chipped up. Luckens in Winger Mn fixed me up. Some of the best mechanics around. They do only Semi Transmissions and rear ends. Rebuilt and replaced three large gears in the sinc box and clutch. Ended up leaving the trani in. $2350. out the door a hell of a deal and timely. They work into the night if you need it. Another good thing it shifts smoother less grinds. Oh the mechanic said.. The what wears out the rear clutch prematurely is shifting with out moving. It can make the clutch move the truck without being in gear. Always be rolling when down shifting. Thanks for the helpful advice.

All right how do you put in high range when in PTO. You're not moving??

Yeah I asked that, sometimes it can't be avoided. If the gears aren't moving it can sit out side and the clutch will still move the truck. I don't know but the trani guy said it. I had some sweet picks of the chewed up gears but some how last night i erased all my black berry photo's.
