A CONCRETE pump truck driver has been given four years in jail for killing two young girls in Queensland. According to the judge’s sentence, the driver had missed five speed and roadwork speed signs, brightly coloured barricades, safety cones and drove his 8.5t Isuzu concrete pumping truck into the rear of a Subaru station wagon. The two sisters were seated in the rear of the station wagon.
In the Maroochydore district court, the driver pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the girls’ death this January. The minimum time he will serve is 14 months in jail and he was also disqualified from driving for three years.
It was revealed that weather conditions were perfect and there were no mechanical issues with the truck.
The truck was travelling about 80 km/h, about twice the 40 km/h speed limit indicated on a “prepare to stop” sign, when the driver suddenly braked, leaving skid marks that stretched for 33m.
The two girls died on the Sunshine Motorway at Pacific Paradise, where an airport overpass construction was under way.
The truck driver’s family is expected to lose their home to pay for all the cars he damaged because his truck was not insured.

I sure hope everyone reads this and thinks about how they drive. We all have to be very careful. This is such a sad story. I am so sorry it happened.

Ya know Todd,a very valid point.Yes we are all held accountable for our actions. You would be amazed at how many class 8 drivers are either agressive or not paying attention. This is a sad example of one such case.

Having known the driver of this line pump since I was a young child, and seeing him just a few weeks ago before the court hearing. Seeing the devastation that this failure to obey the roadworks speed limit signs that were temporarily in place at the time of the accident, whether intentional or due to a lack of paying attention, has done to all the families involved, that being the family of the 2 young girls who have died and also to Pats own family, I also do hope that someone somewhere learns from this tragic event and that it hopefully never happens again to anyone ever. I personally would hate to have to live with this inncendent over my head. Better to be late then not arrive at all or worse still .....
