Sorry Im not able to give you any advise, but I just wonder: which was the model of the gauge you used to check the pipes thickness? Were the measurements reliable? |

Not sure the brand of my old guage, there are no markings on it, and it is fairly old. It did seem to do the job. If a pipe wall was getting thin, it worked well enough to identify it. |

You can try this website: www.ultrasonic-thicknessgauges.com or just google ultrasonic thickness gauges & you'll have more options than carter has liver pills |

All will read 'thru' the paint but the problem is, that paint thickness is added to the total wall thickness. This may only be a few mm's but wall thickness readings need to be fairly precise as there's not much of a difference in getting a few more yards (or meters) & blowing tubes. |
