What do some guys think they don't need a CDL to drive a concrete pump or mobile crane? |

That ruling does not mean you need a CDL that ruling means you have to abide by the hours of service. This is a federal ruling. |

I was just thinking about this yesterday, so for example if it was a 1 1/2 hr trip to the job site and you pumped for 13 hrs you would be out if hours, correct? So theoretically if you drive back and were involved an accident the operator could be held liable? Also does this require you to run a local log book? |

we have installed the electronic log books and electronic Pre and Post trip logs on all of our CDL required equipment, my understanding is that electronic logs will be required in 2014. has anyone else been following the hours of service? |

Page 12 also lists exemptions for the Hours of Service regulations as well. Which most of us fall under the first listing which is if you are driving within a 100 air-mile radius (150 miles) you are exempt from keeping an H.O.S. .. Only requirement is to keep time track records ( time in, time out, and total hours ) |

That exemption also states that in order to do that u must report and return to work reporting location within 12 hours, keeping a log you are allowed a total of 14 hours on duty but then are required a 10 hour break and then the 8 day 70 hour rule and 34 hour break rule |

true. Most jobs are easily accomplished in a 12 hour period.. There are some jobs that are not able to be accomplished within that timeframe, so I suppose that the only way to get around that would be to have someone who hasn't been on the clock for 12 hours to bring a service truck to your location when the job is done so you can drive that back to the yard, and have the guy who hasnt been on the clock as long to drive the rig home. |

Very true good point. Just trying to educate myself here thanks |

If you drive the service truck you are still in violation. I wonder how the would feel about us doing 20 to 30 hrs straight?

guess we'll have to bring a tent with us to work now from now on then |

Beside the rules. What if you operate a machine over 15 hour and you make a terible mistake? I don't think you get away in front of a jury.

CDL B required with tanker endoserment and current DOT med card. I have been stopped twice scales for a offroad fuel check. Pulled over for a permit inspection. Always have been asked for the lic. and med card. As far as the tanker endorsment goes michigan DOT says " any permanetly mounted tank 119 gallons or more" . If your running out of state with the pumps " the hours of service inter state "mite be a issue. Local jobs intra state they could care less. |

If your truck is nice and shiny, neat and tidy, most of the time the inspectors will wave you right through also. Happened to me a bunch of times |

Our intelligence will eventually turn this rock in to one cold, dark place.,but in reality we are an anomoly in this vast ever spreading cosmos. So when you have a break today, put down your i-phone and think about how lucky we are to be here.Rules will change, people will die, politicians will go to jail, babies will be born. So,today, walk up and Thank a stranger for being there,if things were perfect, life on Earth would not exist.....Maybe today you can slow down, dont be afraid of saying no to something you CAN control, like your hours of service,or maybe how fast you drive,or proximity to power lines, its all temporary and ever-changing............ |
