Operator pay should be based on experience and faithfullness, not the size of the boom.Bigger boom does not always mean better operator. |

bisley,I share some of your sediment.I know as I got older I didn\'t want the grief of the bigger booms.Especially after I got my first taste of a 58m. Unfortunatly the big booms do get a higher pay scale (good for them) but yes us guys with the experience should be treated in the same maner. The last company I worked for had a good manager that took care of me. |

You are right. My comment about axles was a sympathy vote for moving 8 times |

Speaking of moving and big booms, what percentage of these big booms,42 and up,have oilers. And how many of these units have escort trucks that help tote dunnage and such? |

I only know of one non-union company that has oilers on their 58 & 63 pumps. While on the topic of BIG pumps, the big 70m Putz is going to come in around $1,700,000.00 or YOU COULD BUY 2 - KCP 65M pumps for $1,725,000.00........... |

hey guys i fully agree with what you say about experience. I dont know about you all but here lately have seen alot of guys come through that say they can run big pumps but after spending the day withg them come to the relization that they would probaly have problems running a 28m,and for some reason these guys are making top dollar. By the way no oilers or dunnage help for me except for the occasionaly ride along to see if the new guy knows anything. |

There is a lot of that going round. People with a year or two in the industry that have everything all figured out. Big booms, no problem - high rise, yea, sign me up. YIKES!!! |

I ran a 58sx and made the same as I did running a 32m.I don\'t know why owners pay big booms more when the profit margin on a big boom is the same or even less.I\'m with you, pay for experience, not boom size |

I think that the big booms should make more money because ther is a lot more responsibility with the set up with a big boom and when you get a big boom stretched out there there is a lot of flex envolved and there is a lot of responsibility with driving these big booms down the road they don\'t stop as easy as the little booms this is just like saying that an operator that runs a 5 section z-boom shouldn\'t make more money than an operator that runs a A-frame boom yes the big booms pump the same as the little booms but there is a lot more work envolverd with them and besides why is it harder to find big boom operator\'s I can go on for hours about this but I will leave it at that!!! |

Usually, hopefully, thankfully the guys that run big booms do have more experience. I know several ops that ran a big boom and did not like it and after 31 years are still on a 36 and having a good time. You must pay that guy for his experience, big boom or 36m. |

THIS IS FOR COUNTRY.NO A FIVE SECTION BOOM OPERATOR SHOULDNT MAKE MORE MONEY,OR BIGBOOM OPERATORS THE RESPONSIBILITY IS THE SAME.THATS LIKE SAYING A LINEPUMP OPERATOR SHOULD MAKE MORE MONEY,THEY WORK HARDER.I\'VE RUN FROM A LINEPUMP, 26M TO A 58M THE RESPONSIBILITY IS THE SAME RETURN ME AND MY COWORKERS HOME SAFE EVERY DAY.AS FOR THE 5 SECTION I DONT SEE WHERE THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT,ANOTHER JOSTICK FUNCTION OH MY INDEX FINGERS BEING WORKED NOW I NEEED MORE MONEY,PLEASE, EXPERIENCE PAYS,AND IF YOUR RUNNING A BIG BOOM YOU SHOULD BE EXPERIENCED,EVERYONE ONES ENTITLED TO YOUR OWN OPINION,BUT I LIKE MINE |

line pump and truck cost say $ 90k. Gets $85 hr.
boom cost $360k. Gets $130 hr.
I am no Mba but looks like a line pump makes more money than a booom dollar for dollar. boom cost 3x more and cost lots more to run. looks to me like trailer pump guy should get the raise. |
