This afternoon I was finishing up washing out, when all done I ran out of water then my water pump froze up. Like it got something stuck it? It worked really well as far as pressure. I tried moving the shaft with a pipe wrench to no avail. Question is.. Whats the best way to fix it? Or should I look into another pump and can you buy one from a pump store or hard ware other than Schwing$. Tomorrow I'll take it off and apart maybe its just got something stuck in it. Its been making noise though.. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Brian, you can get a roller kit to re-build them, extremely simple to do. The rollers have a plastic coating on them that starts to peel off. Mine was blue.

An agricultural supplu store should carry the rebuild kit, but then there's always Ebay too.

Make sure you mark the cover before you take it off. Those bolt holes are a little tricky to line up. You will see.

Pry it apart gently! The shaft is usually a press fit into the bearing in the cover!

They are pretty easy to build. The smart cookie has 2 of these puppies, one on the shelf. While your in that area get a spare coupler w/rubber.

b-alto, we use a diaphragm pump on some of our trucks (Sandpiper); I have really good experience with those, it eliminates the hyd. circuit for the water pump as well as the hyd. motor for that, it is a really simple pump and easy to maintain, but there is some wiring and plumbing (air supply)  involved, if you want to change it; the only negative things is that you have a surge, when the pump shifts; it costs about the same as the Hypro pumps; I have seen it on some McNeilus RM trucks, too

There are issues with air-powered diaphragm pumps in cold weather. But they are a nice option to have. I'm not sure that draining your air pressure down during a prolonged washout is good for the PTO. The additional wear and tear on your compressor is something to keep in mind as well. If I had room on my pump for a decent-sized water/air reservoir like mixer trucks, I'd have one of them too.

I've got the exact same water pump on my rig and just had to replace the bearings a few months ago. pumpjockey's on the right track. my rollers where also blue, only took a couple of hours to repair.

Just got home, long day, also got a call my line pump operator is still on his 2:00, 16 yard pour seems both trucks are stuck and they are proceeding to skid steer 16 yards to the line pump WTF. Well I all ready sent the invoice he'll have to mark it up a couple. Any way I'm going to remove the pump now. By the way it totally sucked washing out this afternoon with the piss harder hose rig I used. My pump used to shoot so hard it made my arm tired. Awsome!

Be careful when buying a new pump, make sure the arrows are the same, those things come in two different ways!!!

Thanks for the advice guy's. I removed the pump put a big pipe wrench on it and broke it loose, then oiled the bearings and wa la it works again. For how long? i don't know. But the pressure is extreme.. I think I need to dial it down. Oh my opp is finally on his way home, Hour away, If he makes it of the mud pit? I've got the pressure washer ready to clean her up. At least they got the concrete pumped and trucks out. Up here its common to have a "Mud Party" Spring and Fall.

Well today as expected my pump froze up again. So, i took it off and found new bearings at the local parts store (Schwing water pump) 2" outside 1" inside bearings easy find. I had my machinist friend press them out. Turns out the freeze up problem however, was the plastic coating on the rollers peeling off. I ordered new, although my MF made new out of plastic, and later I figured he should have just used Brass but Oh well , I'll replace them with the original steel with plastic coating on Wednesday. Found out Schwing uses two pumps, one has large rollers one has smaller type. Two kinds.

I hate paying for the same real estate twice. They always freeze back up and the plastic is always the problem.Keep a spare on the shelf, same with coupler.Been there, done that, have the shirt

Why couldn't i make the rollers out of Brass? This guy can machine them right to specs. Wonder what the reason for the plastic is?

I'm sure there are several ideas on that.I feel there needs to be some sort of soft part to take the wear. There's always dirt/grit in the tank which would chew up the rollers and not the housing. The bearings hardly ever wear out, just the rollers and seals. That makes for a more inexpensive rebuild. The thought behind one on the shelf, put in a long day and have to rebuild before going out? It's much easier to R&R and build on a rainy/snowy day.The spare coupler is self explanitory.

Did three jobs yesterday with the plastic rollers in place. Very noisy though. My new ones will come tomorrow.
